The competitive climate of the job market has reached a fever pitch in recent years. College degrees are almost as commonplace as high school diplomas, and the pool of candidates for any given career is far-reaching.

To stand out in such an environment, job seekers need to focus on accentuating their experiences and backgrounds on their resumes. A degree from a prestigious university or an impressive roster of past employers can certainly make a good impression on hiring managers, but the real test of a candidate s fit is how well the person s skills align with the position in question.

Wendi Weiner, a certified professional resume writer and founder of The Writing Guru. noted that a job candidate s skills and relevant knowledge are substantiated by the keywords they choose to use.

Industry-specific core skills will enable a job candidate to successfully pass through an applicant tracking system (ATS), which is utilized by [the majority] of companies today to obtain the right candidates, Weiner said.

While it s good to have a well-rounded skills section, it s not enough to simply list a string of phrases. Josh Ridgeway, director of MSP delivery for staffing agency Kavaliro. reminded job seekers that hiring managers want to see concrete examples of those skills in action. In resumes, you see a skills summary, [which includes] problem solving, excellent customer service, attention to detail, etc., Ridgeway told Business News Daily. However, oftentimes, we don t see an explanation of those skills. If you have problem solving and critical thinking in your resume, you should tie those skills into your explanation of job duties and how those specific skills played an important part.

The challenge is greater for those who have been laid off or who have been out of work for an extended period of time. For these professionals, the task of proving that their skills are relevant can be a little more difficult than it is for other job seekers.

Ford R. Myers, a career coach, speaker and author of the book, Get The Job You Want, Even When No One s Hiring (John Wiley Sons, 2009), advised considering transferable skills that you ve gained from paid and unpaid past experiences.

Transferable skills acquired during any activity volunteer positions, classes, projects, parenting, hobbies, sports can be applicable to one s next job, Myers said. By adding transferable skills to a resume, employers get a better understanding and broader picture of who they are hiring, as well as the interests, values and experiences that the candidate brings to the table.

Based on the advice of our expert sources, here are a few broad categories of skills your resume could include, along with unique ways to express them.

Interpersonal communication

Jobs require teamwork. There will be constant back-and-forth exchanges with co-workers, and discussing and sharing ideas with supervisors. Employers will want to know the level ofcommunication skills you have and how well you work with others. The specific required skills will vary based on your position. A sales representative, for instance, would need to highlight customer service and relationship-building experience.

Planning and organization

If the job you want involves working on research projects and companywide campaigns, you re going to want to show off your top-notch planning abilities. Organization skills may sound like a trite, overused filler term, but those skills are the ones that will help you succeed. Show potential employers you ve got what they re looking for by outlining your involvement in, and results from, current and previous projects.

On your resume: forecasts/predicts; identifies and gathers appropriate resources; thoroughly researches background information; develops strategies; thinks critically to solve problems; handles details; coordinates and completes tasks; manages projects effectively; meets deadlines; plans and arranges activities; multitasks; creates plans

Management and leadership

Leadership skills can be gained in a variety of conventional and unconventional ways, but it s not always easy to express them on a resume. Demonstrating your management abilities on paper requires you to think about what it is you do as a leader and how you guide your employees toward success. To give employers a better idea of what you ve accomplished, discuss the size of the team and the scope of the projects you manage.

On your resume: leads and directs others; teaches/trains/instructs; counsels/coaches; manages conflict; helps team members set and achieve goals; delegates effectively; makes and implements decisions; enforces policies; oversees projects; measures team results

Social media

Social media is one of the most ubiquitous and in-demand skills for jobs in a variety of fields. Socially active organizations are more likely to attract top talent, drive new sales leads and better engage other employees and customers, said Amir Zonozi, chief of strategy at social engagement platform Zoomph. Therefore, when employers look for new hires, they re also typically looking for new internal-brand ambassadors.

Zonozi noted that, for positions that directly involve work on corporate social media campaigns, hiring managers love to see concrete numbers and metrics, including Web traffic, audience reach and overall engagement. Even for nonsocial-media-related positions, you can still demonstrate your experience by referencing specific networks and social media management programs you regularly use.

    Here’s a rundown of the best ways — as well as the best times — to find online coupons. You’ll find that all of these strategies are relatively easy and can save you big bucks.

    Where to get codes

    Retailers’ sites. Retailers tend to promote discount codes at the top of their homepages. Take note of the code because you might not see it again once you get to the checkout page where the box to enter the code is located. Bath and Body Works, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sears and Victoria’s Secret are among retailers that most frequently offer codes that apply to items sitewide or to broad categories, according to DealNews.com. Several of these retailers also allow customers to use more than one code at a time. Jones says a 10% to 20% off coupon code for electronics is a good discount; whereas 15% to 20% off for clothing is common, so hold out for 40% or more. However, sometimes the coupon codes offered on retailers’ sites aren’t the best available discounts, says DealNews.com coupon editor Sarah Jones. That’s why you should check other sources, too.

    Coupon sites. Sites dedicated to providing coupon codes occasionally list exclusive coupon codes in addition to those that retailers are promoting on their sites. Sometimes the only way to get a retailer’s discount code is to “like” its Facebook page.

    Email alerts. If you sign up to receive emails from retailers, you will get coupon codes and sale notifications. Many of the codes sent by email are universal, but sometimes retailers send exclusive codes for use only one time, Nuzzo says. Create a separate account to receive these emails so that your primary account doesn’t fill up with notifications and offers from retailers, she says.

    Customer service. Both Jones and Nuzzo say it never hurts to call a retailer’s customer service to ask if any unpublished coupon codes are available. I once called customer service when the discount from a coupon code I was trying to use for an online purchase wasn’t being applied. The customer service representative applied the discount to my purchase then gave me an additional 10% off to compensate for the trouble I had trying to place my order online.

    When to get codes

    First of the month. DealNews.com recently studied coupon release patterns and found that retailers offer a higher volume of discount codes on the first day of the month. Most of those codes tend to be valid for the entire month, Jones says. So if you can wait until later in the month to make a purchase, your patience might be rewarded with a better deal as retailers release codes for higher discounts to spur sales before the end of the month. If a deeper discount doesn’t appear, the code released at the beginning of the month likely will still be valid.

    Early in the week. Check for new coupon codes on Sunday, which is when many stores release offers. If the retailer of your choice doesn’t release any then – or you’re not impressed with the discount – check back later in the week to see if new codes have been released in advance of the weekend, Jones says.

    Around holidays. DealNews.com found an increase in coupon codes released around major holidays – usually about two weeks in advance. Many retailers have sales around holidays, too, so you can increase your savings by applying coupon codes to already discounted items. According to DealNews.com, the best coupon discounts tend to appear on Cyber Monday – the Monday after Thanksgiving when online retailers have sales.

    August and October. These two months see a higher than average volume of coupon code releases, according to DealNews.com.     Is Retail Therapy for Real? 5 Ways Shopping Is Actually Good for You

    You know the phrase, “When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping”? There just may be some wisdom in that.

    A survey conducted by TNS Global on behalf of Ebates.com found that more than half of Americans (52%, including 64% of women and 40% of men) admit to engaging in “retail therapy”—the act of shopping and spending to improve one s mood. This echoes a previous study. published in the Journal of Psychology and Marketing. that revealed 62% of shoppers had purchased something to cheer themselves up, and another 28% had purchased as a form of celebration.

    But beyond the quick rush provided by making a purchase, is retail therapy actually therapeutic? Renowned San Francisco therapist Peggy Wynne. who is known to personally appreciate the mood-boosting quality of a great pair of shoes, says that it can be. “We all enjoy a little retail therapy now and then, she told me. In small, manageable doses it can soothe the soul. Shopping isn’t a problem when it’s done in moderation, just like moderate use of alcohol.”

    Of course, it s possible to overdo consumption, in terms of drinking or shopping, or any number of other things for that matter. In fact, the warning signs that habitual shopping has become a problem have a lot of overlap with the classic tell-tale indications that you re abusing alcohol. Wynne says that lying or hiding purchases from loved ones, feeling guilt or shame about shopping, missing work or other obligations to go shopping, and feeling that shopping is no longer fun but a necessity are all signs that your shopping habit has gotten out of hand.

    I wouldn t exactly use the word “therapy” to describe the effects of shopping. And everyone can agree that stuff won t make you happy in the long run. Still, based on the research and countless interviews with consumers I ve conducted over the years, I can point to five genuinely therapeutic benefits of shopping—provided, again, that it s done in moderation.

    Janice was in a marriage void of intimacy for over a decade. When she finally divorced, the first thing she did was to buy all new bedding. “It was like I was possessed, she recalled. I spent hours shopping for just the right thing and I finally bought the most beautiful duvet, shams, the works. It did feel therapeutic like I was shedding that old marriage and ready to start fresh.”

    As part of a research project, I visited the home of Andre, a 39-year-old single tech entrepreneur. Inside, I was surprised to see he’d included a space for long dresses in his newly built custom closet. When I asked him about it, Andre said that he was “dating around” and hoped to get married soon. In an “if I build it she will come” state of mind, Andre did some remodeling that included what he thought were things his yet-to-be-identified future wife would want. “I assume she’ll need someplace to hang her dresses,” he said.

    Shopping can be a rich source of mental preparation. As people shop, they’re naturally visualizing how they’ll use the products being considered, and in doing so they’re also visualizing their new life. And as many great athletes will attest, visualization is a performance booster and an anxiety reducer.

    It’s no wonder, then, that two of the most shop-intensive times of our lives are also two of life’s greatest transitions: getting married and having a baby. We go shopping and visualize the future as a means of preparation for these big transitions. These activities help people feel more control and less anxiety about the unknowns lying ahead.

    “Some types of purchasing can serve a higher purpose, says Sara Levin, a psychologist specializing in child development, who often counsels what she describes as excited but overwhelmed young parents. Retail purchases can be helpful if the product inspires self-confidence and a sense of mastery.”

    Whether it’s shopping for dorm equipment with your teenager or buying a special outfit to wear on vacation, the act of browsing and purchasing can help us anticipate, imagine, and mentally prepare.

    Dressing for Success

    When Annie moved from her small rural hometown to Boston for a new job, she admits she went overboard shopping for new clothes. “Everyone looked better than me, she said. I had to get new stuff. I know I should be judged by just my work, but I really felt so much better when I’d come in with a great outfit. It’s probably wrong that I wasn’t confident without getting new clothes, but it was true, and it still is something I think is important.”

    What’s unusual isn’t that Annie purchased new clothing for her new job, city and lifestyle what’s unusual is that she felt guilty about it. Who among us hasn’t purchased something for a special date, a new job or a big event?

    Turns out that dressing appropriately not only increases our confidence, but may even help us perform better. In a study published by The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. participants who were given white doctor s coats were far more accurate on test of attentional focus and concentration (traits associates with physicians) than the control group that simply wore street clothes for the experiment.

    On the flip side, there s proof that people can and do actually judge a book by its cover or in this case, judge a person by their shoes. In a study published in the Journal of Research in Personality . participants were able to guess a person s age, gender, income and agreeableness based solely on photographs of their shoes.

    The Pleasure Boost of Creativity and Aesthetics

    Jules, a young administrative assistant, prides herself on her taste. “I love decorating and styling outfits, she told me. The texture and colors I can think of just the right thing to tie it together. It’s so fun.” Jules enjoys shopping for creative inspiration. She says she visits shops at least once a week. It’s just fun to see what’s new, and it gives me ideas.”

    Over the years, I’ve asked many consumers to describe products they love. The responses are often similar to how someone might describe a piece of beautiful, inspiring art. Jim, a 60-year-old businessman, showed me a birthday gift from his wife, an expensive Panerai watch that he’d craved for years. He made sure I noticed every detail, including the suppleness of the strap. He was clearly enraptured by the beauty and functionality of the watch. Some think that owning a luxury item is about status, but for many it’s more a deep appreciation of craftsmanship and design that enlivens the senses.

    Relaxation and Escape

    When people think of the benefits of “retail therapy,” concepts like escape, entertainment and rejuvenation are usually at the top of the list.

    In my most recent consumer interviews, online shopping is increasingly mentioned as a type of mini mental vacation. This makes sense. It’s a relatively mindless, relaxing activity, and since many times the browsing session ends without anything being purchased, it s often harmless as well. As a bonus, when faced with a difficult decision or arduous task, short breaks like these can actually improve performance and decision-making. Studies show that our unconscious mind continues to work out problems while we’re engaged in a different activity, provided we don t switch over into tricky multi-tasking—juggling several things at once and not focusing on anything deeply.

    Christina, a senior human relations professional, shopped for light fixtures nearly every day for a couple of weeks during breaks from her job. “I’d just scroll and scroll. I kind of missed it when I finally bought one,” she said. Another consumer named Chanelle takes breaks from her family by shopping. “It’s me time,” she told me. “Sometimes it’s crazy at home, and so I go to the mall for some me time.”

    Be it window shopping, online scrolling or pawing through racks at outlet malls, shopping really can be a mental refresher like a blip of a vacation, without any packing or planning.

    Since the dawn of human society, people have gone to the marketplace to connect with other people. “When I go on vacation, I always go to where people are shopping,” says Elaine, a retired teacher. “I get a feel for the place and the people, especially if I’m traveling to a different country.” Others, especially young people, meet friends and compare notes about tastes. “It’s how I get to know someone,” says Taylor, a stylish 15-year-old.

    Some people, like Jim, the guy who is crazy about Panerai watches, find new friends based on a mutual appreciation for products or brands. After receiving his watch, Jim attended a store-sponsored party and now regularly visits a website where Panerai owners post photos of their watches and share advice and news.

    If there’s one antidote to emotional distress, it’s human connection. We’re a species that’s meant to be with others. Whether that takes place over dinner, at home, or at the mall, it’s therapeutic.

    4 ways retailers can improve supply chain management

    Retailers and their suppliers are under more pressure than ever before to deliver more goods to more destinations faster.

    To stay competitive, “retailers need to know where things are at all times so they can redirect shipments, rebalance inventories and respond to new demands on the fly,” says Rich Becks, general manager, Industry Value Chains, E2open. which delivers cloud-based supply chain collaboration solutions.

    And if there is a problem with their supply chain, and they can’t get products to stores and/or consumers, retailers (and their suppliers) risk losing customers.

    So what steps can, and should, retailers take to make sure their supply chain operations are running smoothly? Following are four suggestions from retail supply chain experts.

    1. Use cloud-based software that can track and manage inventory in real time. “Retailers struggle to balance uncertain consumer behavior and long, complex supply chains,” explains Kurt Cavano, vice chairman CSO, GT Nexus. a supply chain technology company.

    “These two challenges make it harder than ever to align supply with demand, which can quickly impact margins and sales,” Cavano says. “A solution to this is to implement a supply chain network in the cloud that tracks inventory and demand changes, and allows retailers to respond to the latest demand signals in near-real time.” This way, “retailers can adapt to things like seasonal trends and other fluctuations in demand on the fly.”

    2. Use source tagging and RFID to keep track of inventory and stock levels. “To improve supply chain management from the moment product leaves the manufacturer’s warehouse all the way through to the point-of-purchase, retailers should deploy a source tagging solution,” says Steve Sell, director, North America Marketing, Retail Practice, Tyco Integrated Security. “With an increased awareness of the volume and location of merchandise available across all channels, source tagging helps inform inventory management and supply chain operations at all levels to better inform business decisions.”

    “For example, warehouse stock levels can be continually monitored so that stocks can be replenished whenever sensors detect a near out of stock situation,” says Mark Morley, director, Industry Marketing – Manufacturing, OpenText. an enterprise information management provider. “Tagged goods in a warehouse can [also] help to guide pickers to their exact location,” making for faster fulfillment.

    To gain further visibility into the supply chain, “implement RFID,” says Melanie Nuce, vice president, Apparel General Merchandise, GS1 US. a supply chain standards organization. “A more precise level of inventory visibility ensures the retailer knows where their product is in the supply chain. Standards, such as Electronic Product Code (EPC) enabled Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), are allowing leading retailers to pinpoint their inventory in real time,” she explains. “By using RFID, a retailer can inventory 20,000 items per hour at 99 percent accuracy or higher. All of this means a simpler, more efficient way to deliver on the promise to the consumer.” Furthermore, “by combining RFID-enabled inventory and source tagging with smarter, more sophisticated electronic article surveillance (EAS), retailers gain real-time insight into the supply chain, from what is available to sell via online and in-store channels to how much is needed on the shelf,” adds Sell.

    3. Become a part of a B2B e-procurement network. “B2B [or e-procurement] networks can help companies predict supply chain disruptions and act quickly to adapt business processes,” says Sundar Kamakshisundaram, vice president, Procurement and Business Network Solutions, Ariba. an SAP company. “Businesses need to know their entire supply chain – not just their suppliers, but their suppliers’ suppliers, too,” he says.

    Using a B2B procurement network can “help [retailers] move from responding to risk to proactively predicting it to create advantage and get ahead of supply chain disruption,” he says. That’s because “business networks, and the cloud-based technologies underlying them, have made it possible for more efficient buyer/supplier collaboration.”

    4. Make sure your marketing and supply chain teams are in sync. “When executing a promotion, a lot of retailers overlook the alignment of the supply chain and marketing teams, which is crucial [if you want] to successfully launch a promotion,” says Pat Sullivan, senior vice president, Promotions Management, HAVI Global Solutions. a consulting company. By having marketing alert the supply chain team ahead of time that a big promotion is coming up, “the supply chain team can determine how much product is needed to prevent falling short [and] how the product will be shipped,” minimizing, or avoiding, delays or disruptions.

    This simple fact has left a lot of smaller boutique retailers left in the dark when they should be thinking about how to attract more eyeballs to their websites. And by the way, I’m not talking an online store, I’m talking your website – your digital calling card.

    If you don’t have a website by now, what on earth are you waiting for? I doubt this Internet thing is going away.

    The most effective strategies to attract new customers to your site revolve around boosting your website’s placement in search engine rankings. This has been known as search engine optimization (SEO) and it’s a concept that causes many indie retailers to just throw up their hands in despair. Don’t.

    What makes many of these tips easy is that they are just time to create the content, not expensive one-time-only marketing materials.

    While it may be fun to play on Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter, that won’t help you attract new customers to your store in that moment they are looking for products you carry or services they are searching for on their phone, laptop or computer.

    Being found on the ‘net is the realm of SEO professionals use complex analytics to exploit the methods used by search engines to rank results. While best practices are in a near-constant state of flux, here are seven simple ways you can get started on improving your website traffic volume without being an SEO expert.

    Make sure the words you choose to put on your pages, your content, offers valuable information to visitors in search of the answer. Instead of just stating the simple facts about your business, you’re family run, blah, blah, blah or using discounts to try to sell your products, position your business as the solution to a problem the consumer is having. Describe your services in a way that answers their questions to position yourself as the expert. Use lots of “you” and little “we.” This is a very easy adjustment to make on your site, and it only requires that you remain conscious of your approach.

    2. Update your website regularly

    Just like customers search your retail store for what’s new, the search engines favor websites that have fresh, recently added content. The key here is to choose a web hosting service or site platform that allows you to update your site easily and often. The Retail Doctor is all built on WordPress and easy to maintain without being nickel and dimed by developers or the straight-jacketing by the free platforms.

    3. Maintain a blog on your website

    OK this isn’t the incredibly easy part but you should be the expert in your field. Just put your thoughts concisely in an article on timely topics that will attract new customers and keep your one-time visitors coming back. For example, if you run a retail clothing business, an article like “5 Must-Have Fashion Trends for Fall” is a good option.

    You can run similar features seasonally, and if you provide your reader with value, he or she will keep coming back. Yes you can use Blogger and other sites but you want the blog to live on your site. That would mean you want to use WordPress.org which is self-hosted versus WordPress.com which hosts the blog.

    Here’s the difference, self-hosted blogs get all the credit for hits directly for your website while the other gives the credit for all your hits to them. With self-hosted blogs you make your rankings go up, in the other you make their rankings go up. Make sense?

    Oh yes, that also means adding fresh content at least once or twice per week.

    4. Don’t always be selling

    I know, from the guy who makes a significant part of his living doing retail sales training, I’m the last guy you’d think would say that. Here’s what I mean.

    So many retailers sites scream price and product that nothing stands out. In the attempt to “sell” something to us you lose our interest because you are shouting either: a) We’re desperate and need the sale or b)We’re only interested in what you can do for us right now. The trick is coming up with content, features, articles and the rest that make your site, and by extension your brick and mortar store indispensable. Once you have that trust and interest, by all means, sell them.

    You can use your blog to link to your website, but you should also include links in email newsletters to subscribers and on your social media feeds. Your goal is to build traffic to your website so you show up higher in results. This link building is very easy – all you have to do is add links to content across all the digital platforms you use. You can also comment on local news sites with a link to content on your site. This drives people ultimately to your retail store.

    Submit your blog articles and website content to authoritative third-party sources of related information. Local news websites, industry-related blogs, consumer forums and online communities are all great places to re-post your blog articles and build links to your website. It replaces trying to send out a press release about an event – again your goal is to be the authority on home improvement if you are a hardware store or the expert on dog grooming, cooking or para-sailing. Your blog articles, if crafted to show that expertise in bite-sized posts becomes shareable.

    7. Invest in professional writing and web design

    This will improve the quality and relevance of your site content and make your website more appealing to visitors, both of which can help you generate higher traffic volumes without lifting a finger. Again, free is nice but if you want to attract more traffic to your brick and mortar store, you have to attract more traffic to your website.

    These are by no means all the ways to attract customers to your website and then to your brick and mortar retail store but it sure beats sitting around wondering what you can do to attract customers.

    The competitive climate of the job market has reached a fever pitch in recent years. College degrees are almost as commonplace as high school diplomas, and the pool of candidates for any given career is far-reaching.

    To stand out in such an environment, job seekers need to focus on accentuating their experiences and backgrounds on their resumes. A degree from a prestigious university or an impressive roster of past employers can certainly make a good impression on hiring managers, but the real test of a candidate s fit is how well the person s skills align with the position in question.

    Wendi Weiner, a certified professional resume writer and founder of The Writing Guru. noted that a job candidate s skills and relevant knowledge are substantiated by the keywords they choose to use.

    Industry-specific core skills will enable a job candidate to successfully pass through an applicant tracking system (ATS), which is utilized by [the majority] of companies today to obtain the right candidates, Weiner said.

    While it s good to have a well-rounded skills section, it s not enough to simply list a string of phrases. Josh Ridgeway, director of MSP delivery for staffing agency Kavaliro. reminded job seekers that hiring managers want to see concrete examples of those skills in action.     In resumes, you see a skills summary, [which includes] problem solving, excellent customer service, attention to detail, etc., Ridgeway told Business News Daily. However, oftentimes, we don t see an explanation of those skills. If you have problem solving and critical thinking in your resume, you should tie those skills into your explanation of job duties and how those specific skills played an important part.

    The challenge is greater for those who have been laid off or who have been out of work for an extended period of time. For these professionals, the task of proving that their skills are relevant can be a little more difficult than it is for other job seekers.

    Ford R. Myers, a career coach, speaker and author of the book, Get The Job You Want, Even When No One s Hiring (John Wiley Sons, 2009), advised considering transferable skills that you ve gained from paid and unpaid past experiences.

    Transferable skills acquired during any activity volunteer positions, classes, projects, parenting, hobbies, sports can be applicable to one s next job, Myers said. By adding transferable skills to a resume, employers get a better understanding and broader picture of who they are hiring, as well as the interests, values and experiences that the candidate brings to the table.

    Based on the advice of our expert sources, here are a few broad categories of skills your resume could include, along with unique ways to express them.

    Interpersonal communication

    Jobs require teamwork. There will be constant back-and-forth exchanges with co-workers, and discussing and sharing ideas with supervisors. Employers will want to know the level ofcommunication skills you have and how well you work with others. The specific required skills will vary based on your position. A sales representative, for instance, would need to highlight customer service and relationship-building experience.

Show potential employers you ve got what they re looking for by outlining your involvement in, and results from, current and previous projects.

    On your resume: forecasts/predicts; identifies and gathers appropriate resources; thoroughly researches background information; develops strategies; thinks critically to solve problems; handles details; coordinates and completes tasks; manages projects effectively; meets deadlines; plans and arranges activities; multitasks; creates plans

    Management and leadership

    Leadership skills can be gained in a variety of conventional and unconventional ways, but it s not always easy to express them on a resume. Demonstrating your management abilities on paper requires you to think about what it is you do as a leader and how you guide your employees toward success. To give employers a better idea of what you ve accomplished, discuss the size of the team and the scope of the projects you manage.

    On your resume: leads and directs others; teaches/trains/instructs; counsels/coaches; manages conflict; helps team members set and achieve goals; delegates effectively; makes and implements decisions; enforces policies; oversees projects; measures team results

    Social media

    Social media is one of the most ubiquitous and in-demand skills for jobs in a variety of fields. Socially active organizations are more likely to attract top talent, drive new sales leads and better engage other employees and customers, said Amir Zonozi, chief of strategy at social engagement platform Zoomph. Therefore, when employers look for new hires, they re also typically looking for new internal-brand ambassadors.

    Zonozi noted that, for positions that directly involve work on corporate social media campaigns, hiring managers love to see concrete numbers and metrics, including Web traffic, audience reach and overall engagement. Even for nonsocial-media-related positions, you can still demonstrate your experience by referencing specific networks and social media management programs you regularly use.
