Sabotage Movie Review – Film Summary (2014) #peabody #access #tv

Sabotage

Action, Crime, Drama, Thriller

Having written and/or directed the likes of “Training Day ,” “Harsh Times” and “End of Watch,” David Ayer has staked his claim as being one of Hollywood’s go-to guys for wildly implausible and inexplicably celebrated sagas involving cops who are on (or at least adjacent to) the edge. With his latest work, “Sabotage,” he has divorced himself from the recurring elements of his filmography in two key areas by giving viewers a story that focuses on DEA agents who are on the edge and which is so preposterous that no sane person could possibly celebrate it as anything other than inadvertent comedy. This could well be the single most implausible film playing at your multiplex this weekend and bear in mind, “Mr. Peabody Sherman” is still in release.

One-time action king Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as John “Breacher” Wharton, a two-fisted, hard-drinking Atlanta-based DEA agent who, as the story opens, leads a ragtag group of colorfully nicknamed agent—including “Monster ” (Sam Worthington )’ “Grinder” (Joe Manganiello ), “Sugar ” (Terrence Howard ), “Neck” (Josh Holloway ), “Tripod” (Max Martini ), “Smoke ” (Mark Schlegel) and “Lizzy” (Mirelle Enos)—on a raid of a cartel safe house that they are using as a smokescreen for stealing $10 million dollars in drug money for themselves. Alas, when they go to retrieve the money later on, they find that it has disappeared and to make matters worse, their higher-ups somehow know about the missing money and yank them all out of the field while trying to find enough conclusive evidence.

After eight months, the Feds throw in the towel and not only reinstate them all but allow them to reform their group on the basis that no one else will work with them because of the shame they have brought on the department. At this point, someone begins bumping them off one by one in extraordinarily elaborate and gruesome ways. At first, the assumption is that one of the cartels they have tangled with in the past is behind the killings, most likely the one from whom they took the still-missing money. However, as the body count continues to rise, the increasingly paranoid gang begins to suspect that one of their own is responsible. As tensions mount, Breacher, along with a local cop (Olivia Williams ), tries to get to the bottom of the murders while confronting the dark secrets that led to him trying to steal all the money in the first place.

Essentially a head-on collision between a gritty cop drama and an over-the-top slasher film that leaves no survivors, “Sabotage” is a genuinely weird movie in most respects but unfortunately, it isn’t so much interesting-weird as it is “What in God’s name were they thinking?”–weird. The storyline is such absolute nonsense from top to bottom that it makes the Beastie Boys music video for their song “Sabotage”—a knowing spoof of Seventies-era TV cop dramas—seem like “Heat” in terms of dramatic believability. To be fair to Ayer, a good portion of this lunacy may be he handiwork of co-writer Skip Woods. who has helped to pen such crimes against the action genre as “Swordfish ,” “The A-Team ” and “A Good Day to Die Hard.” Whoever is ultimately responsible for it, the screenplay is little more than a foul-mouthed stew of ridiculous twists, unpleasant characters and a conclusion that basically abdicates all narrative responsibilities in order to jam in a chase, a violent concluding shootout and an even more violent coda that feels trucked in from another movie.

Although the film does him no favors, I can understand why Schwarzenegger signed on to this project—after the failures of “The Last Stand ” and “Escape Plan,” he no doubt felt the need to shake things up a bit. Unfortunately, the script does him no favors and most viewers will be thinking that he is just a tad too old to be playing this particular character. However, his always-unique line readings do inspire the closest that the film gets to actual entertainment, which is more than can be said for his co-stars.

Terrence Howard seems to be hoping that Don Cheadle will turn up to relieve him, Josh Holloway plays essentially the same part that he did in the last “Mission: Impossible” film and Mireille Enos. stuck with one of the more embarrassing female roles in recent memory, overacts up a storm. As for Sam Worthington, he is so forgettable that he barely registers even when he is front and center. The closest thing to a good performance comes from Joe Manganiello, who displays enough wit and charisma to sort of make up for his cardboard character.

One last thing about “Sabotage”—it is really, really violent. Yeah, a certain amount of violence is to be expected from a Schwarzenegger action epic but the red and grey stuff flows so freely here that even Dario Argento might have suggested dialing it back a bit. Under most circumstances, I don’t have a problem with extreme violence in a film as long as it can be artistically justified but it is laid on too thick this time around and grows very tiresome in no time at all. In other words, “Sabotage” is a film that is a bloody bore in every sense of the word.

Which is the best cable tv provider in NY?

Used RCN for about 7+ years. generally they’ll keep raising their rates which is very annoying and/or splitting out packages and charging you more..then offer combined packages to new people it seemed like.
Realiability I’d give an a 6 out of 10 on the cable tv. their on-demand was horrible and kept stuttering for me. The tech staff was pretty incompentent and just follows set scripts and dialog (ie they don’t have any real skills, they are just reading scripts based on words you say), but the wait-time was horrendous like 30 minutes. Service seemed to mysterioiusly go down every couple of months (i think it was maintenance but hard to know).

Have been on TimeWarner for the last 2 months now.Beter on-demand stuff and ny1 is great. Realiability wise tho lots of stuttering but i think it has to do with the cable box software b/c i don’t get that problem with my non-dvr one. Tech help once again just follows same drone-script, which means the rep doesn’t have any real knowledge..but at least you get picked up within 5 minutes usually.

have never tried Verizon, but if i can get it, I’d try that as I hear reliability wise its always been pretty good

Just switched from TWC to Fios when I moved. $148 bill (with internet, no DVR, no phone, yes HBO, No Show/Max) to 24 month Fios deal without a contract for $99 first year, $119 second: Faster internet, includes 2 TV DVR, phone (saves another $15-25 for Vonage) & Show/Max but no HBO (can be had for another $20). So far good service. Wireless included which reduces the clutter of one more router on/under my desk.

Turner channels, including CNN, are back on Dish Network — for now

CNN and other channels owned by Turner Broadcasting are back on the Dish Network’s channel lineup after a month-long blackout.

CNN and 7 other channels owned by Turner Broadcasting are back on the Dish Network’s channel lineup — for now — after a month-long blackout.

Turner and Dish announced Friday that they’d struck a deal to restore the programming for several months. The extension is not a new long-term contract, so negotiations will continue.

The two companies did not describe the reasons for the extension, other than to say that “they have mutually decided to restore service of CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, truTV, TCM, HLN, CNN en Espanol and Boomerang, and extend the carriage of TBS and TNT.”

The blackout of CNN and the other channels began without warning on October 21. When it happened, Turner blamed Dish for “operating in a disruptive manner” while the satellite company blamed Turner for “making unreasonable financial demands.”

Tense negotiations between distributors and programmers are common, but channel blackouts are relatively rare.

The blackout inconvenienced some Dish customers and suppressed the ratings for Turner’s channels, including CNN. (Dish provides satellite TV to 14 million households, roughly 1 out of 7 homes that subscribe to some form of TV package in the United States.)

Earlier this week, Turner began telling Dish customers that they might also lose TNT and TBS, which are Turner’s two most popular channels. The carriage deal for TNT and TBS was supposed to expire on December 5.

Thanks to the extension announced on Friday, though, those two channels will not be blacked out next month. The extension ensures that all ten Turner channels will be carried through early 2015.

The timing is significant because Turner’s channels will be carrying the NCAA college basketball tournament in March and the NBA playoffs in April — potentially giving Turner a lot of leverage.

Separately, Dish remains in negotiations with another major programming provider, CBS Corp. ( CBS )

Dish’s deal to carry CBS was set to expire on Thursday, but the two sides agreed to a short-term extension, so no programming interruption has occurred.

After Turner’s announcement on Friday, CBS said there was no update on its negotiations.

Q: I recently replaced my iPad 2 with an iPad 3. I removed the old iPad from Account Information / Manage Devices in the iTunes Store. The person to whom I gave the iPad 2 performed a Restore within iTunes, and set it up as a new iPad. I restored from the backup of the iPad 2 during the initial setup of the iPad 3. However, the iTunes Store still thinks my iPad 2 is associated with my account. I removed it again, and repeated logging in to the iTunes Store from the new iPad, but the Store still shows my iPad 2 as an associated device (albeit with the current date). Is this a bug in the iTunes Store? Did I miss or incorrectly perform a step in transitioning from the old iPad to the new? Will I have issues with the iTunes Store on the new iPad in the future?

A: Actually, there does appear to be a problem in the iTunes Store with regard to actually identifying the new iPad models in the Manage Devices section. Basically, iTunes seems to be misidentifying at least some third-generation iPad models as second-generation devices at least two of our editors are experiencing the exact same problem in this regard. In the example below, the first iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G entry represents an actual iPad 2 that would have been registered on that date; the last entry is actually a third-generation iPad that was setup from a backup of the previous iPad 2, similar to the scenario you describe. Note that the original iPad 2 is still in use with this account, yet despite being erased and setup as an entirely new device it also still appears under the old name.

The good news is that this appears to be merely a cosmetic issue simply a matter of the wrong device model name being displayed. If you can connect to the iTunes Store from your device, and play and download content, your device is setup correctly regardless of what the Manage Devices screen shows.

In the same way as iTunes computer authorizations work, iOS devices and computers are registered with iTunes based on a specific hardware identifier in addition to the registration information being stored on the device itself. Restoring an iOS backup from one device to another will not transfer the iTunes Store registration; the new device still registers as a new device.

If you erase an iOS device and set it up as a new device you will still need to sign into the iTunes Store with your Apple ID and password to access your account regardless of whether it is still listed in the Manage Devices section. So in other words, even if you had not removed your old iPad from that list, the new owner can t do anything with regard to your iTunes Store account unless they actually know your Apple ID and password, nor will the iPad display any indication of being registered for your account the Manage Devices list only applies to the iTunes Store side and the iTunes Store does not push any account settings out to your devices, registered or not.

In fact, the device associations listed in iTunes are actually only used for features such as iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match. The only reason you even need to bother removing an older device from the Manage Devices screen is to free up a registration slot as there is a ten-device limit for these services.

As an aside, it s worth noting that because the device registration is based on the hardware. the 90-day restriction on switching accounts will continue to apply even if you restore the device completely back to factory settings, configure it as an entirely new device and remove it from the Manage Devices section of the original account. This means that when selling a used device, the new owner may find themselves unable to use it for their own content from iTunes in the Cloud or iTunes Match unless at least 90 days have passed since the last time you switched accounts. You can determine if you have any devices that are affected by this restriction by looking at the Manage Devices screen, which will display the number of days remaining before the device can be associated with a different iTunes Store account; no days remaining indicator means that the device can be switched to a different account at any time (which will start the 90-day clock on the new account).

The good news here, however, is that Apple doesn t appear to start the 90-day timer until the first time you switch accounts; in other words you can switch away from the first account you setup on your device for iTunes in the Cloud or iTunes Match at any time, when doing so you ll receive a warning that you will not be able to switch accounts again for 90 days from that point.

Note that this 90-day limitation only affects the ability to re-download previously purchased content, automatically download content purchased from another device, or enable iTunes Match; it does not prevent the user from using another iTunes Store account to purchase content directly on the device or transferring purchased content onto the device directly from iTunes over USB or Wi-Fi.

The Best Internet Service Providers

Internet Service Provider Review

Find the Best Internet Service for Your Area

Most areas of the U.S. have at least a few high-speed internet options and more than likely a few dial-up options available. To find the services available in your area consult our list of providers and once you narrow the list down to the internet service providers (ISPs) in your general area, you can find what specific services are available in your exact location. Visit the website of an ISP and input your address or phone number into the search tool to pinpoint exactly internet plans are available in your area.

Once you have determined what services are available to you, you need to decide what type of internet connection will satisfy your needs. If you have a landline telephone and only need the internet for checking email and other simple tasks, a dial-up service will work for you. If you have a landline telephone and use the internet primarily for checking email, reading articles or light research, a DSL service should satisfy your needs. However, if you are a moderate to heavy internet user and use it for gaming, watching movies or streaming music, you will want to look for a good cable or fiber optic service. Keep in mind that dial-up is typically one of the cheapest internet services you can buy.

A note on speed: Reported speed is the maximum speed expected in optimal conditions, but speed varies by area due to differences in physical infrastructure and environmental conditions. Speed related for dial-up, DSL and cable above are generally accepted speed numbers; however, there is some dispute about actual potential speed per technology.

We did extensive research to determine the best home internet providers, who can provide high-speed options to large markets, such as our top picks: Comcast. Time Warner Cable and Verizon. You can also learn more about ISPs by reading our informative articles about internet service providers .

Internet Service Providers: What to Look For

Comparing wireless internet service providers is a difficult task. Most urban areas only offer a few high-speed choices, while rural areas often only have DSL, satellite or dial-up options. Choosing between different options can be a headache, especially with the aggressive advertising campaigns and opinionated customer reviews combating one another. To filter out the marketing hype and contentious criticism, we narrowed our focus to answer three simple questions: How fast is the connection? Where is it available? Can I get help if I need it?

Connection Speed
This area causes the most confusion. Most home internet services tout fast speeds, or report speeds in multiples of standard dial-up speed or even in potential kilobits per second (Kbps) or megabits per second (Mbps). However, reported speeds do not always match average performance speed; speeds vary greatly depending on the time of day and even your location. The posted speed is only the potential speed, not the actual average performance speed. We rated highest the services that can provide high-speed options such as cable or fiber optic connections coupled with good third-party tested speeds. The companies that offer dial-up rated higher if that company also provides faster DSL services.

Service Area
When looking at an ISP, check the number of subscribers that company has as an indication of the company s longevity and potential to expand the existing infrastructure. Most urban areas have high-speed options such as cable or fiber optics available. Rural areas usually have a few dial-up, satellite or DSL choices. We tested the same four urban and four rural addresses with each ISP to get an idea of how broad an area it covers. We also made note of approximately how many access numbers are available for dial-up in rural areas; the more access numbers available, the better chance a customer has of securing a dial-up connection quickly and consistently.

Additional Features
This criterion is not as crucial as it was five or 10 years ago. Most people are now comfortable with free webmail options such as Gmail or Yahoo and do not need additional email accounts offered by the internet service provider. However, some ISPs provide extra benefits to using the branded email service such as extra online storage and spam and virus blocking. It is helpful if the provider can supply security software that is always up-to-date, as well as parental controls. A few of the large providers offer low-income internet solutions for families with young students, veterans and the elderly.

Support Options
Fast, helpful, knowledgeable support is critical. Look for services that provide numerous avenues of contact such as by phone, email and chat. Services that rely on physical components such as cables and modems should also provide responsive, local on-site support. Check to see if the company provides convenient tools such as online support documentation in regards to billing and service, and note if the company provides an easy-to-use online bill pay option.

80s Sitcoms

The Sitcom ruled the airwaves in the 80s. Of all the 80s TV shows that were popular, no genre consistently topped the ratings like the sitcom did. In the early 80s, tv shows like Threes Company . One Day at a Time . Taxi . and Different Strokes were extremely popular. In the mid 80s, Growing Pains . Newhart . The Golden Girls . Cheers . Who’s the Boss? . and Family Ties led the way. Later in the 80s, Roseanne . Alf . and Nightcourt brought laughs into the living rooms of a large amount of American households.

The Cosby Show

Of all the sitcoms, the champion had to be the The Cosby Show . From its first airing in 1984, the Cosby Show was always at the top of the 80s television charts. Not only was it the most popular sitcom of the 80s, but it almost single handedly revived the fortunes of its network, NBC, which previously had languished at the bottom of the ratings. The Cosby show featured the Huxtable family, with Bill Cosby playing the role of Dr. Cliff Huxtable. A lot of the show’s subject matter was based on Cosby’s stand up comedy routine. This opened the door for the likes of Roseanne, Jerry Seinfeld, Drew Carey, and Ray Romano to have similar success with shows based on their comedy.

80s TV Dramas

80s Prime Time Soaps

In the early to mid 80s, the television soap opera made a big push into prime time. The 80s TV Show Dallas was the prime instigator in the soap take over of prime time. Dallas actually premiered in 1978, but it’s Who Shot J.R. episode in 1980 was the show that really ushered in the heyday of the prime time soap. The show was one of the most look forward to tv shows in television history. It was the resolution of the previous season’s cliff hanger involving the shooting of the favorite villain of the show: J.R. Ewing. Throughout the summer of 1980, Who Shot J.R. dominated american pop culture. There were t-shirts proclaiming I shot J.R. being sold, there were magazine specials discussing all of the potential suspects, it was a pop culture phenomenon. The actual show ended up being the highest rated television show in US history, but was later eclipsed by the final episode of M*A*S*H.

Following up on the success of Dallas, the 3 networks dished off a bunch of soaps for their prime time viewing audience. There was a Dallas spin off called Knots Landing . which followed the exploits of Gary Ewing in California. Other families America loved to follow were the Carrington’s of Dynasty and the Channings of Falcon Crest . Other soap style shows included Hotel and LA Law .

The Love Boat / Fantasy Island

The Love Boat and Fantasy Island were ABC’s one two punch on Saturday nights for a good portion of the early 80s. Until Fantasy Island’s final season in 1984, the two shows led the ratings for Saturday night viewers. Aaron Spelling’s The Love Boat was an hour long show that involved different couples each week finding love on a cruise ship. The couples were played by well known guest stars and included everyone from Alan Thicke to Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Fantasy Island was another show that involved having guest stars appear each week. This time they were people who paid to have their fantasies produced for them on a mysterious pacific island.
