Central Washington University is excited to offer a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Administration. The master’s program is a 46-credit online program. The CWU Master of Science in Athletic Administration prepares aspiring and practicing athletic administrators for successful careers in Athletic Administration by providing knowledge, understanding, and the application of successful leadership and management strategies, processes, and skills.

Central Washington University’s (CWU) College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) is recognized nationwide for successful training of graduate students in educational administration, psychology, and counseling. CWU graduate students successfully attain positions in education as administrators, school psychologists, and counselors. Housed in CEPS, the Department of Physical Education, School Health and Movement Studies (PESHMS) directs the Athletic Administration Master’s Program with its knowledgeable professors who have considerable experience in interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics as athletic directors, advisors, mentors, and coaches. Tenure track faculty, experienced in teaching, are aware of the need for the practical application of skills, and the knowledge and understanding necessary for successful leadership in athletics.

The opportunity for a degree in athletic administration comes at a time when the need for competent and knowledgeable athletic administrators is on the rise. In today’s fast-paced world of athletic administration, beginning Athletic Directors have little time to engage in “on-the-job” training. New Athletic Directors must be ready to set program direction, establish open communication and professional relationships, apply problem-solving strategies, and address budgetary and other program issues, all while managing an efficient and people-friendly program. Our master’s program prepares new and practicing athletic directors to be capable leaders and efficient managers who work efficiently and effectively.

Athletic Administration Master’s Program Cohort:

As a member of a CWU Athletic Administration cohort, you will work with your fellow graduate students on projects and coursework over a two-year period. Your understanding and application of the strategies and processes of athletic administration will grow with each quarter of participation. Each cohort member relies on the timely and effective support of classmates and faculty. Furthermore, the professional relationships you build as a member of the cohort greatly affect the efficiency and efficacy with which you and your classmates participate and complete coursework. In addition, each member of the cohort establishes a network of professional relationships they rely on as they move forward as practicing coaches and athletic administrators. In short, you and your fellow graduate students will come to rely on one another through two years of coursework, including the coursework you will complete during each summer session. Research in higher education has shown that professional groups, i.e. cohorts, projects, and workshops, engage students, and provide highly interactive and effectual learning environments.

Summer Sessions. Each CWU Master of Science in Athletic Administration cohort will participate in two on-campus, two-week summer sessions. The first session (during the cohort’s first summer) will be the initial experience of the AA cohort. As such, it will give each cohort member the opportunity to meet and work with other cohort members and get up to speed using technology applicable to the master’s program and the practicing athletic director. The second summer session (during the cohort’s second summer) will provide each cohort member with the opportunity to solidify professional relationships, prepare for the cooperative experience, and begin the culminating project. Students may not skip a summer session and then make it up after their project/thesis/examination.

If students cannot make plans for attending both two-week sessions (in order), they may be dropped from the program. (The $50 application is non-refundable). This includes those students selected as Graduate Assistants who may have to work summer camps. We suggest that before prospective students apply, they make certain they are willing and able to attend the summer sessions on campus. The sessions are always around the last week and a half of June and end right before the 4th of July.

Additional Program Information

Cooperating Experience. Each student will complete a one-quarter “cooperating experience” with a practicing professional in athletic administration. The “experience” can take place at a variety of athletic-related programs, i.e. high school and intercollegiate athletic administration, state or national athletic-governing associations or professional associations, private or public recreational facilities or departments, or professional sports organizations. Each “experience” will include a substantive professional project that addresses a current need or problem within the participating organization.

Professional Certification. National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) administrative certification as a Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) is available to master’s degree candidates upon completion of the CWU Master of Science in Athletic Administration. Additional certifications can be pursued through exams.

The Religious Education CPD Handbook, religious studies schools.#Religious #studies #schools

Welcome to the RE Handbook

The Religious Education Handbook offers a resource for teachers wishing to develop their subject and professional knowledge in the teaching of religion in primary and secondary schools in England.

The resource does not pretend to be exhaustive. However, it has drawn together a range of expert contributors, from the faith traditions, from teachers, from advisers and academics. Many of these writers have a lifelong association with the traditions about which they write, some are converts, others are lecturers, scholars, teachers with decades of experience. These writers have all been asked to produce in short, summary form some of their area of expertise, and all suggest further resources. Online resource recommendations here permeate this Handbook.

Recommendation of these and book resources include high quality subject and professional learning for teachers practitioner and academic peer-review materials. The premise here is that learning how to be an excellent teacher of religious education is not going to be easy, particularly if your degree background and training was outside of religious studies or theology. Even if your degree background and training was in religious studies or theology, religious education is so diverse a subject that few would claim to have outstanding subject knowledge expertise in all aspects of the subject.

Naturally of course, there are many examples presented throughout the Handbook of pedagogy which involve experience of religious communities and the wider context of learning outside the classroom.

The editor also extends many grateful thanks to all the expert contributions without whom there would no Religious Education Handbook.

The editor is also grateful to the Steering Group that guided the path through to its conclusion.

Any questions or queries, please do get in touch with me at Oxford.

How to Give a Great Recognition Speech #research #and #studies, #recognition #presentation, #recognition #speech

#

Have you seen the 2010 film (and Best Picture winner at the 83rd Academy Awards) The King’s Speech? Here’s a quick rundown: Colin Firth plays King George VI who, to overcome his speech impediment, visits an Australian speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush. With some assistance, King George was able to dramatically improve his speech techniques, and in return, brought together a country on the brink of war. The King’s Speech is a moving story about a man whose speech-giving abilities were, to put it lightly, less than stellar at first.

Many HR managers often find themselves in a position to give speeches to recognize their employees. These managers may not be the most gifted, or talented, public speakers. If you are one of these managers, do not despair. I’ve written this article for you and the rest of those HR managers need a little help when it comes to giving employee recognition speeches. Remember: a good speech can motivate, engage and inspire an employee even more than an engraved clock or expensive MP3 player.

Here’s the typical scenario: you re invited to make a speech recognizing a great employee. You’d like to show that employee how much the organization appreciates his or her hard work and you want your other employees to recognize your appreciation. This means a lot to employees, so take some time to prepare a personalized speech.

First off, thank everyone involved with setting up the ceremony (if there is one) and making the event possible. Thank the employee, tell him or her how important they have been to the company and how much you appreciate them for their hard work. Explain to the rest of the staff how the employee achieved this award, whether it was performance-based or a more traditional years of service award.

Tell a specific story about the employee that highlights his or her performance, as an example. List the employee s accomplishments and describe how each accomplishment affected the company. You want other employees to understand the depth of your appreciation and to also realize that they can achieve similar successes someday.

Make your employees laugh and feel relaxed while you explain the importance of good work. Use a tasteful joke in your speech, where appropriate. Employees will appreciate your light attitude and may view you as more relatable than they did before. People will do their best work for employers they like. End your speech by thanking the employee again for all the hard work done and reminding the rest of your employees of these accomplishments. Leave everyone feeling good at the end.

Some other tips include the need to practice saying your speech prior to giving it. Also, time the speech as you say it out loud so you know how much time you need.

So there you have it. Just like King George VI, you have a voice! Now use it to show your employees how much they mean to you and your organization. They will certainly appreciate it.

Introduction to Environmental Sciences

00:17 Are you looking for a career that reflects that passion?

00:20 How much do you know about environmental science and its related careers?

00:24 Let’s explore the field and talk a little about what you can expect from a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from University of Phoenix.

00:31 Environmental science is an exciting area that brings together the natural sciences, environmental law, policy, and ethics to improve the way we interact with our world.

00:39 Throughout your degree program, you’ll learn about environmental protection, restoration, sustainable energy, and pollution control.

00:46 Increasing interest in environmental issues, combined with a growing need for sustainability, have expanded opportunities in this already thriving field.

00:54 Let’s take a look at some of the areas you’ll be learning about.

00:57 Ecology is the study of the interaction between living things and the environment.

01:02 Through research, ecologists provide vital information for the preservation and restoration of species and landscapes.

01:10 This basic information is essential for land managers and policymakers as they make decisions regarding species and ecological communities.

01:18 There is currently a huge need for this research.

01:20 Only 15 percent of species in the United States have been studied accurately enough to judge whether they’re endangered.

01:25 At a time when extinction rates are on the rise, understanding the ecology of species and landscapes is essential to their preservation and restoration. 01:34 A career in ecology might take you to a private consulting firm or government agency.

01:38 You may help monitor plant and animal communities, restore degraded landscapes, or provide data for construction and other projects to ensure they’re environmentally safe.

01:47 Keeping our environment safe isn’t always easy.

01:50 Pollution affects our ecosystem and human health.

01:54 Fortunately, efforts over the last 50 years, including the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, have reduced the release of pollutants in the atmosphere and waterways.

02:02 Prior to the Clean Water Act, only one-third of waterways in the United States were clean enough to swim in. 02:07 Forty years after the act’s passage, 65 percent of waterways are safe for swimming.

02:12 This is thanks in part to the work of environmental scientists employed both by industry and agencies to ensure compliance with the law.

02:18 Jobs in pollution monitoring and mitigation include stormwater and wastewater management.

02:23 In these careers, you may guarantee compliance by collecting samples in the field for lab analysis.

02:28 Some positions focus on administrative roles, ensure that projects follow procedures and meet expectations.

02:35 You may even be asked to create a remediation plan for polluted sites. 02:39 Our society is dependent on energy.

02:41 Without energy, there can be no electricity, refrigeration, or transport. 02:46 Produce, meats and dairy, could not be shipped.

02:49 Businesses and hospitals could not operate effectively, and computers cannot function.

02:55 Energy is essential for our way of life.

02:58 Over half of our energy comes from nonrenewable fossil fuels, which contribute significantly to air pollution.

03:04 Coal fired power plants provide an incredible 40 percent of our electricity, making it the single biggest source of air pollution in the United States.

03:12 Our overdependence on nonrenewable sources has become more apparent in recent years.

03:17 When combined with the effects of global climate change, renewable clean energies such as hydropower, wind, and solar have become very attractive, but even these energy sources have their drawbacks.

03:27 Environmental scientists play a role in promoting such clean energies from their positions in industry, nonprofit organizations, and agencies.

03:36 Potential careers in energy include consulting about energy management and efficiency, as well as ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

03:43 An environmental scientist is a critical thinker who analyzes problems, collects and interprets data, and works in teams.

03:51 You’ll learn how to improve these skills through collaborative and analytical projects.

03:55 As you pursue your degree, faculty will encourage you to think critically and holistically about environmental issues.

04:01 You’ll also receive a lab kit for chemistry to provide you with hands on experience in data collection and interpretation.

04:07 A degree in environmental science will allow you to use your passion for the environment in the best ways possible.

04:12 There are many opportunities in this field, and they can all make an impact in the protection of the environment.

This Month in History

On April 6, 1917, the U.S. entered World War I, joining forces with British, French, and Russian allies. This followed a long campaign by President Woodrow Wilson to remain neutral; however, increasing German U-boat attacks on US merchant ships and other German acts of belligerence eventually compelled Wilson and Congress to enter the war.
