Bachelor of Adult Education (BA)

School of Social and Human Studies
Atlantic International University

The Bachelor of Adult Education (BA) program objective is to provide students with technical training necessary to work in the broad field of adult education and training; including community development, training coordination, mentorship, staff development, corporate and career training, adult education, and in-service training. Courses focus on training fundamentals, educational psychology, and adult learning behavior. The Bachelor of Adult Education (BA) program is offered online via distance learning. After evaluating both academic record and life experience, AIU staff working in conjunction with Faculty and Academic Advisors will assist students in setting up a custom-made program, designed on an individual basis. This flexibility to meet student needs is seldom found in other distance learning programs. Our online program does not require all students to take the same subjects/courses, use the same books, or learning materials. Instead, the online Bachelor of Adult Education (BA) curriculum is designed individually by the student and academic advisor. It specifically addresses strengths and weaknesses with respect to market opportunities in the student s major and intended field of work. Understanding that industry and geographic factors should influence the content of the curriculum instead of a standardized one-fits-all design is the hallmark of AIU s unique approach to adult education. This philosophy addresses the dynamic and constantly changing environment of working professionals by helping adult students in reaching their professional and personal goals within the scope of the degree program.

Important: Below is an example of the topics or areas you may develop and work on during your studies. Physician Assistant Program

The Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program confers a Master of Science degree upon completion of three years of didactic and clinical education.

There are two routes of entry into this program. Most students are admitted directly into the professional program after earning a baccalaureate degree and completing the required prerequisite courses. Another route of entry is for students who have not yet earned a baccalaureate degree. These students may be admitted into the articulated BA/MS program through one of our affiliated universities.

During the didactic phase of the Program, students study the basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, pathology, etc.) which provide a foundation for the clinical sciences (clinical medicine, physical diagnosis, etc.) During the clinical phase, we offer extensive training, including rotations in inpatient medicine, ambulatory care, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, emergency medicine, psychiatry, intensive care medicine, and a medical sub-specialty (cardiology, gastroenterology, HIV/AIDS, or geriatrics). During the final semester, students may choose an elective rotation from a wide variety of disciplines such as cardiology, infectious disease, dermatology, gastroenterology, and surgical subspecialties or arrange a rotation at a site of their choosing either within the US or abroad.

We believe our three-year curriculum affords the best opportunity for educating a physician assistant. Our graduates consistently achieve high pass rates on the PA National Certifying Examination (PANCE) with scores that place them in or above the 97th percentile nationwide.

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to the Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Rutgers University. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards.

Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be September 2026. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.

    Graduate Performance on the PANCE

    Program Mission Statement

The Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program enhances the delivery of humanistic patient care and advances the PA profession through a dynamic blend of educational programs, research, and service. Expertly crafted curricula and thoughtful mentorship of students develop collaborative, caring and competent healthcare providers.

    Program Vision

The Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program aspires to be recognized as a leader in education and healthcare delivery achieved through dedication to educational excellence, interprofessional collaboration, innovative practice models, and community engagement.

    Program Core Values

In order to meet our Mission and achieve our Vision, the Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program emphasizes the following values:

    • Excellence in teaching
    • Service to the community
    • Inclusion and diversity
    • Academic and professional integrity
    • Adaptability and responsiveness

    Program Goals

    • Provide broad-based, high-quality education to graduate PAs who are well-prepared for work in a variety of settings

The Class of 2015 achieved a 100% first time pass rate on the PANCE as compared with the National First Time Taker Pass Rate of 96%. As a cohort, the 2015 students’ performance exceeded the national average in all areas of the exam.

The intense curriculum includes 123 credits across three years with a full year of clinically focused basic science preparation.

For the Class of 2015, 100% of the graduates surveyed agreed that the basic science and pre-clinical curriculum adequately prepared them for their job.

Clinical rotations are offered in nine (9) disciplines: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Psychiatry, Ambulatory/Family Medicine, and a Medical Sub-specialty. In addition, students choose two (2) electives.

For the Class of 2016, 65 out of 67 clinical sites evaluated by students met or exceeded the Program s high benchmark for providing quality instruction.

Graduates of the Program work in all types of settings including: inpatient units, emergency departments, rural health clinics, federally qualified health centers, community health centers, freestanding surgical centers, solo physician practices, single specialty physician practices and multi-specialty physician practices.

  • Foster humanistic care with an emphasis on beneficence
    • The Program includes a threaded humanities curriculum including opportunities for self-reflection throughout the entire three years.

Graduate surveys reported that 100% of responding alumni from the Class of 2014 and 2015 agreed that the Program prepared them well to practice humanistic care with an emphasis on beneficence.

Clinical sites are now evaluated by students on the ability to develop skills in providing humanistic care.

    • Promote a culture of diversity

The student body includes a diverse mix of individuals from across the country representing various ethnic and socioeconomic groups.

Minority student representation is as follows:

      Class of 2017: 33% minority
      Class of 2018: 29% minority
      Class of 2019: 42% minority

The Program continues to focus recruitment efforts on identifying applicants from underrepresented groups.

    • Foster the value of service to the community and the profession

Students are required to participate in a wide range of community service activities and many surpass the minimum requirements.

Program faculty have a long history of serving the profession in various capacities on the local, state, and national level.

    • Advance interprofessional education and practice Students participate in several IPE events hosted by the PA Program and other schools within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. Students have rated these experiences as highly valuable.
Students participate in interprofessional education and practice at a local clinic beginning in the first year of the Program.
    • Cultivate a foundation of lifelong learning

Introduction to Scientific Inquiry, Applied Clinical Research, and evidence based medicine requirements prepare students for evaluating the medical literature.

The PA Program Research Day highlights the work performed by students and provides an opportunity for dissemination of their scholarly work.

      Commitment to Diversity

The Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program is committed to the ideals of excellence in fostering an enriching learning community of students, faculty and staff from a broad spectrum of nations, cultures, and historical perspectives. Diversity is an integral component of the human experience, and encompasses but is not limited to issues of race, ethnicity, culture, social class, national origin, gender, age, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation. Our goal is to create a consciousness of diversity reinforced with equity and excellence through our policies and practices at the Physician Assistant Program.

    Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Sacramento State Psychology Department’s web site. Please explore the site to learn about our undergraduate and graduate programs, our dedicated faculty and staff, and our outstanding student groups. Opportunities for learning extend beyond the classroom to involvement in research labs and community settings, where students learn skills that include scientific thinking, research and analytic strategies, multicultural awareness, and ethical decision-making.

Be sure to meet with us in person as well as visiting us online. Prospects peer mentors are available to answer questions and to support your undergraduate experience Monday through Friday, 9 AM-4 PM in AMD 358, and faculty advisors are available during office hours to discuss your interests and goals. Click here to find the office hours for our major advisors.
