How long-term disability income insurance works

Two months ago, Mike was injured in a traffic accident that resulted in a covered disability. His plan has an elimination period of 90 days, which means he has to wait for 90 days after his injury. If he s still disabled after that time, he s eligible to begin collecting benefits.

The policy provides a maximum benefit of 60% of pay, up to $5,000 a month, and a maximum benefit duration to age 65. If Mike s disability prevents him from working for 10 months, here are the benefits he could collect:

Interest rates Interest rates

Overview Overview

An interest rate may be defined as the charge for borrowing money, measured as the percentage ratio between the sum payable to the lender and the amount borrowed, at an annual rate. The Eurostat collection on interest rates covers the following datasets:

  • Short-term interest rates – Rates on money markets for different maturities (overnight, 1–12 months).
  • Long-term interest rates,Maastricht criterion – Yield on government bonds with a maturity of ten years. These interest rates are used to define the Maastricht criterion on long-term interest rates, which is one of the criteria for determining whether or not an EU member state is eligible to join the European monetary union.
  • Long-term interest rates (non-EU countries) – government bond yields of around 10 years’ maturity.
  • Euro yield curves – Yields and coefficients calculated for different euro yield curves (par yield curves, instantaneous forward curves and zero coupon spot rate yield curves) based on different selections of bonds.
  • Day-to-day interest rates for euro area countries
  • 3-month interest rates for euro area countries
  • ECU interest rates and yields
  • Central government bond yields
  • Euro yield curves: former Eurostat calculation which ceased in 2005.

The compilation and dissemination of monetary and financial indicators at the European level is chiefly the responsibility of the European Central Bank. A wide range of detailed European and natonal monetary and financial indicators can be found in the ECB’s Statistical Data Warehouse .

Indications: The LAP-BAND System is indicated for weight reduction for patients with obesity, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 40 kg/m 2 or a BMI of at least 30 kg/m 2 with one or more obesity-related comorbid conditions. It is indicated for use only in adult patients who have failed more conservative weight reduction alternatives, such as supervised diet, exercise and behavior modification programs. Patients who elect to have this surgery must make the commitment to accept significant changes in their eating habits for the rest of their lives.

Contraindications: The LAP-BAND System is not recommended for non-adult patients, patients with conditions that may make them poor surgical candidates or increase the risk of poor results (e.g. inflammatory or cardiopulmonary diseases, GI conditions, symptoms or family history of autoimmune disease, cirrhosis), who are unwilling or unable to comply with the required dietary restrictions, who have alcohol or drug addictions, or who currently are or may be pregnant.

Warnings: The LAP-BAND System is a long-term implant. Explant and replacement surgery may be required. Patients who become pregnant or severely ill, or who require more extensive nutrition may require deflation of their bands. Anti-inflammatory agents, such as aspirin, should be used with caution and may contribute to an increased risk of band erosion.

Adverse Events: Placement of the LAP-BAND System is major surgery and, as with any surgery, death can occur. Possible complications include the risks associated with the medications and methods used during surgery, the risks associated with any surgical procedure, and the patient s ability to tolerate a foreign object implanted in the body. Band slippage, erosion and deflation, reflux, obstruction of the stomach, dilation of the esophagus, infection, or nausea and vomiting may occur. Reoperation may be required. Rapid weight loss may result in complications that may require additional surgery. Deflation of the band may alleviate excessively rapid weight loss or esophageal dilation.

At the first level of any retail job, the vast majority of companies will pay you approximately minimum wage, ranging from $9 to $11 per hour depending which province or territory you work in.

There are some exceptions, though. Some high-end retailers can start you at a much higher salary provided that you already have experience under your belt. Many retail stores in the upper echelon have incredible perks, like commission from sales, brand name discounts and benefits.

For example, according to a 2002 survey, an experienced Sales Representative working at Holt Renfrew can earn as much as $80,000 a year in salary and commission. Of course, this is an exception to the rule.

If you’re thinking of advancement, your next likely step would be as an Assistant Manager. From there, you can go almost anywhere depending on your education and experience .

The most important thing to keep in mind when seeking a career path in the retail industry is to research. Select a company that has a brand you believe in and keep an eye open for opportunities, growth and company news.

Research the roles that they have available (or are standard in the retail industry) to find out whether it is something you can see yourself doing down the road.

For example, maybe you have a business degree and are very good at crunching numbers, therefore a career path as a Retail Analyst would be your best goal. Or, if you have excellent organizational skills, and you can delegate tasks and keep on top of things, then a future career in operations may be your next step.
