3 Powerful Benefits of Becoming an HVAC Technician in Michigan

Knowing how to service or install heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or refrigeration (HVACR) systems can have a lot of advantages. And that’s particularly true for many of Michigan’s HVAC techs. They frequently enjoy benefits such as:

1. Career Stability

Almost every building both old and new requires a functioning climate-control system and good circulation of healthy air. But most HVAC equipment breaks down eventually and needs to be either repaired or replaced. Plus, it uses a lot of energy, which can be costly. And that leads a lot of businesses and homeowners to upgrade or retrofit their systems for greater energy efficiency and lower utility bills.

The result is that qualified HVAC technicians tend to stay in pretty high demand, especially in states like Michigan. In fact, nationwide, the employment of HVAC mechanics and installers is expected to increase by 14 percent from 2014 to 2024.* And there are reasons to believe that Michigan’s job growth in this trade could be even higher.

For instance, consider how the construction industry ties in to demand for HVAC techs. New buildings as well as many renovated ones usually require the installation of new HVAC systems. So as cities within the state grow, the need for qualified technicians often grows as well. From April 2014 to April 2015 alone, employment within Michigan’s construction sector rose by 10.6 percent.**

2. Good Wage Potential

In 2015, the statewide average hourly wage of an HVACR tech in Michigan was $22.62, which equals about $47,040 a year. But, in some areas of the state, the average was much higher.

For example, the greater Saginaw metropolitan area was one of the highest-paying regions in the whole nation. In that region of Michigan, the average pay of HVAC technicians was $30.59 per hour (about $63,630 annually).*** And Saginaw is only about an hour-and-a-half to two-hour drive from Metro Detroit.

3. Engaging Work

HVAC schools in Michigan can teach you how to do some of the most interesting work in the skilled trades sector. In fact, people in this vocation often get a lot of satisfaction from doing things like:

  • Troubleshooting sophisticated heating and cooling systems
  • Installing advanced HVAC equipment, including components like air ducts, electrical wiring, and water supply connections
  • Making repairs using a variety of specialized tools
  • Figuring out how much energy a customer’s heating or air conditioning system uses
  • Recommending options for improving the energy efficiency of a system
  • Learning about how to integrate environmentally friendly systems that use technologies such as solar power

The 2017 American Express OPEN Small Business Monitor has good news: nearly three-fourths of small business owners (72%) think their business prospects are looking up, and feel the economy will be favorable over the next six months.

This is a jump over last year, when only 64% had an optimistic outlook, and 2015, when 67% were feeling good about the economy and their business growth potential. Growing their businesses is the number one goal for those surveyed, for the first time in six years of the survey.

Most small business owners are well positioned to look toward expansion; one in five said that their businesses are strong, growing, and performing well. Only 34% are worried about cash flow, and 82% are confident they’ll be able to get their hands on the capital they need to meet their growth goals.

Social media takes the lead

As for their growth strategies, more businesses are focusing on social media this year; 65% will make it a priority, compared with 57% in 2016. More than half of those su.

Being in credit card debt is stressful. And the last thing parents want to think about is how their financial stress might be affecting their children.

For financially strapped families, having one more thing to worry and feel guilty about is a terrible feeling. But a new study from T. Rowe Price might actually be empowering to parents. They surveyed a thousand parents of kids ages 8 to 14 and found that while the parents’ financial habits did affect their kids – kids tended to pick up their parents bad money habits – parents can counteract any negative modeling by simply talking to their kids about money.

Parents who openly discussed money matters with their children were more likely to raise kids with healthy attitudes toward money. For example, kids whose parents had been through bankruptcy, and who were aware of it, were more than twice as likely to say they were smart, or even extremely smart, about money compared with their peers whose parents’ bankruptcy had been kept secret from them. For those looking for a great balance transfer credit card, the top two to consider might be a Citi Diamond Preferred card and or a Chase Slate card. Those were the top two cards named as the best in the industry recently, with a tie putting them both as best in class. The third-place winner was the BankAmericard, a card that isn’t as widely known, but which still offers good value.

The Chase Slate card is a rarity these days, because it lets consumers transfer a balance with no balance transfer fee, as long as they do it within 60 days, or about two months, of opening their account. It then gives folks 15 months to make payments on their cards without incurring any interest fees whatsoever.

Citi Diamond does charge a balance transfer fee, but at 3% or $5, whichever is higher, it isn’t too steep. And their no-interest period is longer, lasting 21 months. The Bank Americard offers an 18-month 0% APR promotion, with a lower ongoing interest rate than many other cards offer, after the zero-interest period.

Credit card debt in America continues to climb, according to a new study. Meanwhile, savings accounts are emptying out or sitting idle, in a trend that has finance experts concerned.

Fifty-two percent of Americans say they still have more money in their savings accounts than they have in credit card debt. That percentage is unchanged from 2016. But the number of Americans with more credit card debt than savings is climbing, rising two percentage points from last year to this year. Only one in six Americans say they don’t have either credit card debt or emergency savings – a worrying statistic, considering those people could very easily fall into debt with just one unplanned expense.

Savings and debt: the generational divide

Older folks – Baby Boomers and their parents, the so-called Silent Generation – were more likely to have substantial savings and less credit card debt. Millennials and Generation Xers were most likely to have more debt than emergency savings overall, but perhaps surprisingly.

You promised to love, honor and cherish each other for the rest of your lives – but that was before the latest credit card statement came to your email inbox. Now you aren’t sure what you could have been thinking, tying yourself down to such a financial mess of a person.

Does this sound familiar? The nonprofit credit counseling agency Take Charge America would bet that it does. The company sees many couples who have trouble talking about money, and who perhaps have never talked much about it at all. Citing a recent Citibank survey that showed 57% of divorced couples broke up over financial issues, they’re offering advice to lovebirds who hope to stay the course and not end up throwing it all away over a difference in bank account statements.

Mike Sullivan, a personal finance consultant with Take Charge America, says many people jump into relationships without first talking about financial issues. “It’s not particularly fun or romantic, but open and honest communication about finances will go a.

Important LAP-BAND System Safety Information

Indications: The LAP-BAND System is indicated for weight reduction for patients with obesity, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 40 kg/m 2 or a BMI of at least 30 kg/m 2 with one or more obesity-related comorbid conditions. It is indicated for use only in adult patients who have failed more conservative weight reduction alternatives, such as supervised diet, exercise and behavior modification programs. Patients who elect to have this surgery must make the commitment to accept significant changes in their eating habits for the rest of their lives.

Contraindications: The LAP-BAND System is not recommended for non-adult patients, patients with conditions that may make them poor surgical candidates or increase the risk of poor results (e.g. inflammatory or cardiopulmonary diseases, GI conditions, symptoms or family history of autoimmune disease, cirrhosis), who are unwilling or unable to comply with the required dietary restrictions, who have alcohol or drug addictions, or who currently are or may be pregnant.

Warnings: The LAP-BAND System is a long-term implant. Explant and replacement surgery may be required. Patients who become pregnant or severely ill, or who require more extensive nutrition may require deflation of their bands. Anti-inflammatory agents, such as aspirin, should be used with caution and may contribute to an increased risk of band erosion.

Adverse Events: Placement of the LAP-BAND System is major surgery and, as with any surgery, death can occur. Possible complications include the risks associated with the medications and methods used during surgery, the risks associated with any surgical procedure, and the patient s ability to tolerate a foreign object implanted in the body. Band slippage, erosion and deflation, reflux, obstruction of the stomach, dilation of the esophagus, infection, or nausea and vomiting may occur. Reoperation may be required. Rapid weight loss may result in complications that may require additional surgery. Deflation of the band may alleviate excessively rapid weight loss or esophageal dilation.

CRNA vs. Perfusionist

Aug 27, ’11 by juan de la cruz. MSN, RN, NP Guide

Perfusion is a good career in my opinion. It’s definitely under the radar as far as a career option – very few programs in the US with small class size in most programs. The role goes beyond running the Cardio-Pulmonary Bypass machine in the OR, some work in Extra-Corporeal Life Support centers and provide expertise on ECMO use at the bedside. The pay is lower than CRNA. I found that they have a forum here: http://www.perfusion.com/perfusion/education.html #

I am currently in perfusion school, and will be starting CRNA school in the spring so I can give you some insight into what it takes to get into both. Perfusion programs are considerably easier to get into than CRNA programs mainly because it’s a little known profession and there are far fewer applicants. There are about 25 perfusion programs and 110ish CRNA programs nation wide. The perfusion program I’m in is 18mo and pre-reqs are a bachelors degree, 9 hours of chem including organic and biochem, 5 hours of pre-calc mathmatics, 4 hours of physics, and 7 hours of A+P. You don’t need any prior clinical experience, but I can tell you my experience as an ICU nurse and ECMO specialist put me way ahead of everyone else in my class.

CRNA school requires a BSN or bachelors with an ADN. Minimum 1 year ICU experience (few get in with only 1 year), biostats, physics, college level math class, organic/bio chem. programs nation wide are in the process of switching to the DNP plan of study and vary in length from 24-36mo.

I enjoy perfusion school. It’s challenging but I’ve decided to switch to CRNA for a few reasons: 1 it’s what I have always wanted to do and the reason I got into nursing in the first place. 2 there are about 3500 perfusionists in the US compared to 40000ish CRNAs way easier to find a job or change jobs. 3 CRNA’s are LIP’s perfusionists are not. 4 I see myself getting bored after 5 years or so. 5 Perfusionists starting salary 80000ish CRNA 130000ish.

Perfusion is a great career, and it is what I would be doing with my life had I not been accepted into CRNA this year. If you are interested in perfusion try and set up a time to shadow one. All of the perfusionists I know are smart, easy going, nice guys. If you have any other questions let me know.

Quote from piratenurse0226

Just a heads up, have you thought of going into a surgical or cvicu? Just asking because if you want to pursue CRNA, they will only take adult ICU exp no nicu exp. if you’re serious about applying I would find an adult unit in your hospital to get into.

Schools decide what experience they take. Critical care is the requirement. I attend school with a PICU and NICU nurse. Some places also allow ER.

Hmmmm, well that’s good news then. Most schools that I’ve researched as well as some websites I’ve looked up said most schools will only accept adult ICUs. Thanks for the heads up

You’re correct in that many schools will only accept adult ICU’s. I’m looking at a school in northern california (I’m working in socal at the moment) that takes NICU exp. I don’t see why schools such as Kaiser/CSUF and others don’t acknowledge NICU as critical care experience. Ridiculous, in my opinion.

I’ll agree with you too. ICU is ICU, you need to do more drug calculations is seems for pediatrics/neonates than adults anyway. Best of luck!

Reporter allegedly body-slammed by GOP candidate speaks out

WATCH GOP candidate cited for assault after run-in with reporter

Reporter Ben Jacobs of The Guardian said he’s still in shock after Greg Gianforte, the Republican candidate in Montana’s special House contest, allegedly body-slammed him on the eve of the election, which is being eyed nationally.

“I’m recovering. It’s been a shocking, stunning 12 hours, and I’m still sort of taking a lot of Advil and trying to get better,” Jacobs told ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America” today.

Jacobs said he approached Gianforte, a former technology executive, at a meet-and-greet event Wednesday night at the candidate’s office in Bozeman, Montana. Jacobs allegedly went up to Gianforte to get his opinion on the Congressional Budget Office ‘s analysis of the American Health Care Act as he was preparing for a television interview. All of a sudden, Gianforte “seemed to just snap,” Jacobs said.

“He grabbed my recorder, and next thing I knew, I’d gone from being vertical to horizontal on the floor,” he said on “GMA .”

“He was on top of me and wailing on me,” Jacobs added.

The Guardian posted an audio recording of the encounter today.

In the recording, after Jacobs asks a question, Gianforte says, “We’ll talk to you about that later.”

Jacobs asks again, and Gianforte refers him to a spokesman. A scuffle ensues.

“I’m sick and tired of you guys,” Gianforte says. “The last guy who came in here. did the same thing. Get the hell out of here.”

After the alleged incident, Jacobs wrote on Twitter, “Greg Gianforte just body slammed me and broke my glasses.”

Greg Gianforte just body slammed me and broke my glasses

Gianforte has been charged with misdemeanor assault, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.

“Following multiple interviews and an investigation by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined there was probable cause to issue a citation to Greg Gianforte for misdemeanor assault,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on its website Wednesday night.

The statement added that the “nature of the injuries did not meet the statutory elements of felony assault.”

As a result of the citation, Gianforte is scheduled to appear in Gallatin County Justice Court between now and June 7.

At a press conference Wednesday, Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said that four people were present for the alleged assault.

Before the charges were filed, Gianforte’s spokesman Shane Scanlon issued a statement, placing the blame on Jacobs and claiming the candidate’s actions were a response to Jacobs’ pushing a phone in Gianforte’s face during “a separate interview in a private office” that he entered “without permission.”

“Jacobs was asked to leave. After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined,” according to the statement. “Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground. It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ.”

In the interview this morning on “GMA,” Jacobs said he “never touched or came close to” the candidate and has had “no personal interactions” with Gianforte other than following him to a couple of campaign stops.

“My understanding is that his issues were based on a report that a colleague of mine had done a couple of weeks ago and had been somehow unhappy or discontented with that and that had apparently set him off,” Jacobs said.

He said he’s unsure whether he will take further legal action against Gianforte.

“I haven’t even begun to think about it. I still have an election to report on in 12 hours, so that’s the first priority,” Jacobs said. “I still have a job to do.”

Selecting a Good Consumer Tax Lawyer

The federal tax code is thousands of pages long, full of rules, exceptions to the rules and penalties for violating them. So, you’re not alone if you have questions and problems, whether you’re dealing with income taxes, estate and gift taxes or an IRS audit .

If your research efforts aren’t enough and you realize you need help, selecting a good tax lawyer will make sure your tax problems are handled properly. But where do you start? Here are some things to help you find the right tax lawyer for you.

Focus on the Problem

Not all lawyers handle all types of tax matters, so try to narrow down as best you can what you think your legal problem is.

If it’s income taxes. like preparing returns, taking deductions and credits, etc. then a general tax lawyer may be who you’re looking for. If you have estate and gift tax issues, you probably need a lawyer who works in that area of law. If you have a good idea of what your specific problem is, your search for the right legal help will be much quicker and efficient.

Find One, or Two or Three

The first step in your search is to find the names of a few attorneys. In the beginning it’s always a good idea to talk to more than one attorney. This way you can comparison shop to find one you like and trust. Here’s where to look:

  • Lawyers.com is a great place to start. A few short clicks will get you a list of tax attorneys in your area complete with telephone numbers, background information and more
  • Contact the local bar association in your area
  • The American Bar Association has tools and information to help you find an attorney
  • Talk your family, friends and co-workers. Someone you know may have hired an attorney to help with a tax issue
  • Check your local telephone book for tax lawyers
  • If you don’t think you can afford an attorney, there may be a program in your area offering free or low-cost legal help with taxes

Research

Once you have the names of a few attorneys, it’s time to find out as much as you can about them. Here’s where to look and some things to look for:

  • If you used Lawyers.com, you already have a lot information at your finger tips. Read the information given by the attorney explaining what he does for a living, and visit the attorney’s web site to learn even more
  • Run internet searches on the attorneys’ names. You may find news articles about them, legal cases they’ve handled, or legal articles or blogs they’ve written. This type of information can tell you a lot about the attorneys’ experience and reputations
  • Make some phone calls if you can’t find enough information online. Most attorneys gladly take the time to talk to potential new clients and answer any general questions, like how long he’s been a lawyer, how much tax-related work he does, etc. Ask if the attorney or law firm has a brochure or literature that can be mailed to you
  • Check with your state’s bar association and your local bar association to see if the attorneys on your list have ever been disciplined and if they’re licensed to practice law in your state. If you discover a problem, scratch the names from your list, or feel free to ask the attorneys themselves about it if and when you meet with them
  • In some states, attorneys may be certified by the state bar association as specialists or experts in tax law. This usually means they have advanced training and experience. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the best in the field, but it’s a good indication they really know their business
  • If you call attorneys for more information, ask if they’re members of any national, state or local associations for tax attorneys. It’s a good indication they focus on tax matters and work hard to keep up with the many changes in federal and state tax laws
  • Look for information on a lawyer’s work history. Many tax lawyers have previous experience in other areas of law that can benefit you. For example, a tax lawyer who once worked for the US Attorney’s Office or the IRS may have invaluable experience and contacts if you have a tax problem dealing with the federal government
  • Check for specialized education. It’s not uncommon for a tax lawyer to also be a CPA or an accountant, or to hold a masters legal degree in law (called an LLM) or a masters degree in business administration (MBA)
  • Consider the costs. Depending on your case, an attorney may charge you an hourly fee where you pay a certain amount for each hour she works on your case. Some attorneys may charge a flat fee – a preset price to work on your case from beginning to end. As you research the attorneys on your list, look for information about how they typically charge their clients and consider which fee arrangement best fits your budget

After your research is complete, narrow your list to three or four attorneys and start making phone calls to set up meetings to talk about your case face-to-face. If you did your homework, you should be well on your way to finding the right attorney to handle your case.

Masters Degree. Nursing vs. /Non Nursing

I would encourage you to decide on what you want to do as the next step of your career, where you want your career to go, and that will tell you what degree/concentration will most benefit you professionally.

(I should have said yesterday that that would also help you figure out whether a graduate degree or some kind of specialty certification or other training (that doesn’t involve getting a graduate degree) would be more helpful. )

I totally agree with ellpark on this. Your choice of an educational program should depend on the type of work you want to do after you graduate. Answer that question and the educational choice will fall into place.

Too many people do it backwards — and end up investing lots of time and money into degrees that don’t lead them to jobs they enjoy. They end up disliking their job options — and regret the investment they made in the education.

So. what type of work do you want to do in the future?

You can always brows job site and look at the type of degrees that employers are looking for. Do you want to be a manager or nursing leader? Then masters degrees in Hospital or healthcare administration would be a good way to go. Do you want to be more of a generalist? Then a masters in Public Health is a way to go. Researchers will generally have a degree in their field of research. Some nursing schools are experimenting with a new advance practice role called the Clinical Leader, which is similar to the soon to be phased out Clinical Nurse Specialist. You don’t have to be an NP if you want an advanced nursing degree. There is also the Nursing Infomatics masters degree, if you really like working with data and computers.

I don’t want to be a manager. and don’t feel that the CNL would be the right fit. I think the CNS makes more sense for me over the NP and CNL, but, as you mentioned, that is being phased out. I guess that is why I was thinking I should find a degree that is not a MSN, but just works well with nursing. (Although that doesn’t sound like a great option either. )

PS. I appreciate all the advice that I have received!
