Software Engineering – Design Class Diagrams #engineering #design #class

Design / Object Classes

A Design Class diagram is a way of modelling the domain to a level of detail much more than that of a domain model. Inside a design class diagram, the classes become objects – Object Classes:

Objects are created according to an Object Class Definition. An Object Class definition is both a type and a template for creating objects. It includes declarations of all the attributes and operations that should be associated with an object of that class.

Ian Sommerville- Software Engineering Edition 8, 2007- Page 316, Ch 14.1

In UML an object class is represented as a named rectangle with 2 sections – the object attributes and the object operations. An example of this is shown below using an object class that models a Circle / Rectangle and a Student :

If one was to thing of this in an Object Oriented way, then the top section would be the declaration of variables, and the bottom section the functions/methods.

Design Class Diagram Example

Now, this is going to get bog, fast – just a warning, hehe. Now for this part, you will need to read this:

An exam contains 3 different types of questions:

  1. Plain text questions
  2. Multiple choice questions
  3. Composite questions

Using this, draw a Domain Model and then a Design Class Diagram for that Domain.

First things first is that we need to identify the Classes. Well, quite obviously we have 3 Classes straight of the top:

  1. Plain text questions
  2. Multiple Choice questions
  3. Composite questions

BUT, look more closely… what do you see? Well, if you saw it or not, they all inherit something that s right, they all inherit “Question”, think about it, each one will contain something of the same variables and operations etc etc, and we really don t want to write out the same variable/operation declaration 3 times?!

But then. what about Multiple Choice questions? They contain multiple answers, so surely we need a type for that – so we could use “Multiple Choice Question Options”

That means we now have 5 classes.

So for quick guidance, here is what the Domain Model will look like:

Here, Plain Text, Multiple Choice and Composite all inheritQuestion. Aside from this Multiple Choice QuestionscontainsMultiple Choice Options; and Composite Questionscontain more Questions .

Note: (A) here meansthat “Question” is Abstract

Extra Features

hmmm… I just realised, i missed something up above – im sooo sorry

So, yeah, there are some extra features inside of a Design Class Diagram – besides the bleeding obvious… These extra features i forgot to mention are:

  • Visibilities. The variables and operations all have visibilities, these are:
      • + (public)
      • (private)
      • # (protected)

I think that’s it… if it isn’t than either leave a comment, email me or if your at my uni then just come bother me, hahaha

Design Class Diagram Example – Finally…

OK, so here we go! Using the Domain Model up above, here is the Design Class Diagram for that Domain Model.

This all looks good, but take a look at Plain Text and Multiple Choice. They both have a field called “+marksAllocated: int ”. So we could refactor some here and make the diagram a little neater:

**If you see a spelling error, it will more than likely be “Reactor” – stupid Windows Live Blogger making the word “Refactor” into “Reactor”

Are Online College Classes Hard? Best College Reviews #online #class #for #college

#

Online college classes are as hard as traditional classes.

Online classes can be as hard as traditional college courses, sometimes even more so. Aside from the hardware and software requirements and learning how to use them simply to attend the course, there is the added factor of self-discipline to get the work completed.

As with any class, a syllabus outlining the course is provided. This document provides an overview of what topics will be covered at what point in the course. Some even provide details on longer projects required for the course and their completion dates.

Textbooks are generally required. These can be obtained either through the campus bookstore, ordered online, or downloaded in e-book format when available. Chapters are assigned to be read, sometimes questions at the end of the chapter need to be answered and submitted, just like a traditional classroom.

Each online class is as unique as the professors that conduct them. Some will require that class be virtually attended at a certain time and provide a link each week. Others require classmates to meet online on their own to collaborate on specific assigned projects. Active participation in discussion boards may be graded. There are deadline requirements for assignments to be submitted.

Exams are given online in the form of essays, multiple-choice, and fill in the blank. Essays require full analysis of the topic, as the student has full access to the learning materials. In the other formats, the difference between online exams and classroom exams is primarily time. Whereas the online student has access to notes, book, and the internet for tests, the time allowed to take the test is greatly reduced. Generally only 1-2 minutes are allotted per question. Some instructors require exams to be taken on a secure server, which denies access to web browsers.

An online class instructor will have a preferred method of contact for student questions. This may be through email or Skype during his or her regular office hours. The professor is under no obligation to remind class participants of upcoming deadlines. It is the student’s responsibility to complete all assignments and submit them on time, which requires self-discipline.

The online student must be prepared to commit an average of 3 hours per credit taken. This means that for a 4 credit course, 12 hours per week should be dedicated to the assignments for that class. This is the same time requirement formula that is used for traditional students. The primary difference is that traditional students meet twice or more per week as part of that time commitment, whereas online students must work it around other daily activities.

Online classes are a great way to earn a degree for someone who can set aside the time to get the work done on their own. These courses cover the same topics traditional classroom classes do. The same amount of time is expected to be devoted to each. The online student, however, has to be committed to the course to be successful.

Time Warner Cable Customers Hope to Build Class Action Suit Over CBS Blackout – ABC

Time Warner Cable customers are waging a legal war against the cable company for dropping CBS while the companies bicker over cable fees.

Three plaintiffs filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against Time Warner Cable Inc. in Los Angeles County Superior Court. They hope to build their case into a class action with Time Warner Cable subscribers in California starting from Aug. 2, 2013, when the cable company began to block out four channels in the state.

About 3.5 million customers in areas of Dallas, Los Angeles and New York don’t have access to CBS programming such as “Under the Dome” and “Big Brother.”

Time Warner is battling over fees it pays to CBS to run its programming. The cable company has marketed aggressively to customers, encouraging them to complain to CBS.

The lawsuit filed this week cites Time Warner’s “failure” to provide its cable subscribers with broadcast channels CBS, Showtime and Movie Channel “while nonetheless continuing to collect from subscribers, and retain the full monthly service fees for monthly cable subscription.”

Lead plaintiff James Armstrong of Hermosa Beach, Calif., accuses Time Warner Cable of breach of contract, unfair business practices, unjust enrichment and unconscionability, in the suit.

Armstrong and his attorney, Elaine Nguyen of Weintraub & Selth, declined to comment.

From August 2011, Armstrong has subscribed to Time Warner’s enhanced basic cable services and also Showtime, which is bundled with the Movie Channel, the lawsuit states, in addition to subscribing to Time Warner’s bundled package for Internet services. Showtime Networks Inc. is a subsidiary of CBS Corporation.

Prior to its dispute with CBS, according to the lawsuit, Time Warner Cable “utilized Showtime as a significant incentive to induce customer subscriptions of general cable services through advertisement and marketing materials.”

Time Warner Cable, incorporated in Delaware with its main place of business in New York City, is the second-largest operator of cable television systems in the U.S., according to the lawsuit, and the largest cable provider for all of Los Angeles and Orange counties. The company has “millions of subscribers,” the lawsuit says.

A spokeswoman for Time Warner Cable declined to comment to ABC News.

In a statement on its website, the company said, “CBS is making outrageous demands for the right to continue carrying their channels. We are holding the line against broadcasters who continue to make their stations available free over-the-air and online while they demand more from cable customers without delivering any additional value.”

CBS has said, “We remain ready to negotiate in good faith when they are.”

Craig Moffett, founder of independent equity research firm Moffett Research, said it is not likely the class action will change the outcome of the dispute nor that it will yield significant financial compensation for the plaintiffs, if successful.

“In some ways, a class action is a consumer temper tantrum but not much more than that,” he said.

Though Time Warner Cable decided to drop CBS programming by refusing to pay CBS’ higher fees, Moffett said Time Warner Cable is negotiating on the behalf of consumers.

“Paradoxically,” Moffett said, “what customers are complaining about is that their bills are too high, but they’re frustrated with TWC trying to keep them from getting higher.”

Moffett estimated that if Time Warner does refund its customers for the lost programming, based on the cost of CBS alone, a subscriber would receive about 40 to 75 cents a month.

“If this thing drags on for three weeks, you might argue for something like 50 cents, and it’s not unlikely that Time Warner Cable would voluntarily refund that amount to subscribers anyway,” he said.

Moffett said he expects more disputes involving broadcast contracts, like that of CBS and Time Warner Cable, which typically expire after about five years, on average.

Moffett said disputes between “lesser” companies in smaller markets, like the one between Dish Network and Raycom that blacked out 36 cities until it was settled on Friday night, “don’t even register anymore.”

“Give the TWC/CBS blackout extra style points for occurring in New York — the news media naturally tends to gaze at its own navel — but still we’re talking a relatively run-of-the-mill occurrence,” he said.

How does that song go? Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody has those days. Thank you, Miley. Sometimes, when you make a mistake, it’s easy to forget that you’re not perfect, that you’re human. Especially when you’re a nurse or health care assistant. When patient lives are in your hands, it can be easy to feel discouraged when you make a mistake. Every error affects their life, after all.

Let’s face it, if there’s one thing you have to worry about in a hospital, it’s infection. Infection can turn everyday issues and small illnesses into life-threatening problems. That’s why there are infection control nurses. These nurses are responsible for preventing bacteria, germs and viruses from spreading and infiltrating the hospital.

Hospital cardiac cath labs are in charge of implanting pacemakers, performing angioplasties and diagnosing cardiac conditions in patients. Registered nurses can work in these laboratories as they as they have the correct education and experiences. These nurses help physicians in the cardiac cath lab.

Whether you just finished CNA training or are starting a new career as a nurse, there are plenty of risks to joining the medical field- especially to your body. Think about it for a moment. All day, you’re lifting, pulling, tugging, injecting, soothing and compromising with your patients. There’s bound to be an issue sooner or later. Maybe you lift Mrs. Carris with your back instead of your knees or Mr. Jones pulls away from you at the last second as you’re attempting to inject him with some Haldol to calm his nerves. Shooting pain runs through your lower back, or you can’t stop your forward momentum in time to prevent the needle from sticking you.

You’ve got an on-the-job injury. So, what do you do now?

September 28th, 2015

Your entire life has been building up to this moment. CNA training, working as a health care assistant, years of nursing school, all culminating in one moment in time: your NCLEX exam. Whether you’re attempting to become an LPN or RN, there are some things you need to do to prepare for this test. After all, this is the start of your future. This test determines whether you continue on a path to success or fall back into an old and tired routine.

Don’t worry. With these tips, you don’t have to be afraid.

September 21st, 2015

There are many similarities between student nurses and typically college students. Each is looking for something more in life, something to give their life purpose. Each is determined to make a career that will make their future a brighter one. And each may be dedicated to their studies. However, most of the similarities end there.

September 14th, 2015

Do you have a passion for caring for those with disabilities? Are some of your best friends those that are older than you? Do you feel a need to care for those who cannot care for themselves? If so, long term care may be the nursing specialty of your dreams. This type of job is multifaceted and requires individuals who want to work with patients and who can work independently without a lot of instruction.

September 7th, 2015

Whether you’ve completed CNA training and been working as a health care assistant for some time or are just out of high school and dreaming of being a nurse, finding the right career path is never easy- especially in nursing. There are so many different paths to choose from, and sometimes it can be difficult to know just which one is right for you.

In nursing these paths are called specialties, and they help determine exactly how you will spend your days in the medical field. There are nurses who specialize in pediatrics, where they are responsible for taking care of children and the ailments related to children. There are even nurses who specialize in cardio, caring for patients who suffer from heart problems or who have the potential to.

One popular specialty you might consider, however, is dermatology. It isn’t all just moles and cancerous lesions, although these are definitely part of it. These nurses have a variety of duties relating to the epidermis. Want to learn more about how to become a nurse in dermatology? Read on.

Whether you’re a career nurse or you’ve just finished CNA training, there’s one thing that connects everyone working in the health care industry: death. It’s inevitable. We fight it every day, attempting to gain just a little bit more time for each of our patients, but sometimes there’s nothing we can do. When that happens, we do our best to make those last moments the best for them. We make them comfortable, hold their hand and let them know they are not alone.

Death is a hard fact of life for anyone, and that doesn’t change when you become a nurse or CNA. While you may have to deal with death more often, you don’t become used it. You may find ways of coping, but each death still has an effect. One of the hardest parts of dealing with this part of life is talking about it, especially with patients who are actually facing it or their family members. It’s your job, however, to make sure they have the information they need so they are prepared. If you’re having trouble speaking of these grim matters, consider the following tips.

CNA training can help you establish a solid foundation in the health care industry. Being a health care assistant gives you a chance to understand how to care for your patients and how to address problems efficiently and correctly. But it may not offer everything you want for your career. If this is the case, you may decide to become a nurse.

Becoming a nurse involves a bit of education, time and commitment. However, it also involves a bit of planning. There are many different nursing specialties you can choose from when you become an RN, and understanding the job duties of each specialty and the expected pay can help you make a wise decision.

Consider orthopedic nurses, for instance. Nurses in this specialty are responsible for caring for individuals who have certain diseases and disorders that affect their musculoskeletal systems. This can include genetic malformations, joint replacements, osteoporosis, fractures, arthritis and broken bones.

Blended Master s Program in Supply Chain Management

Overview

The blended master’s program refers to a new option that is being developed by MIT that would allow learners to combine the MITx MicroMasters credential with one+ semester at MIT. The MicroMasters credential requires a learner to successfully pass five rigorous online courses in supply chain management and also pass a proctored comprehensive final exam. Learners with the MITx MicroMasters credential in SCM can then apply to MIT to the blended SCM master’s program. This new program would require the successful applicant to come to MIT for January through May to take courses on campus for graduation at the beginning of June. Bearers of the MicroMasters credential would be credited for 42 academic units (90 units are required for graduation with a master’s degree, leaving 48-57 units for on-campus).

All SCM students (including SCMb) will have two choices of degree.

  • Master of Applied Science in Supply Chain Management (MASc-SCM) is designed for students who want to take a job in industry or consulting upon graduation.
  • Master of Engineering in Supply Chain Management (MEng-SCM) is more research-focused and is designed for students who wish to continue on in research or pursue a PhD.
