Is Cheap Car Insurance Really Worth It

Summary: Cheap Car Insurance

Cheap car insurance can mean poor coverage, bad customer service, and worse. Find out why affordable auto insurance is better for your financial well-being than cheap auto insurance.

Is “Cheap” Car Insurance Really Worth It?

When it comes to car insurance, customers typically look to find the best price. However, when it comes to auto insurance policies, cheaper is not always better, and there are a number of reasons why.

Cheap vs. Affordable Car Insurance

No matter how you look at auto insurance, the cost is always relative to what coverages and services you receive.

For instance, there is a big and oftentimes unforeseen difference between “cheap” and “affordable” auto insurance. In other words, you can get cheap car insurance that offers very little coverage, but for a little more money you can find affordable car insurance that offers the protection you need at a lower price than what you are used to paying for.

In this regard, it is smart to compare rates for low-cost insurance without simply choosing the cheapest option. Picking the cheapest option by default can leave you hanging in the balance if you have to make a claim, or worse, leave you without a car or cash to fix the damage from an accident.

The Drawbacks to Choosing the Cheapest Option

As mentioned, there are certain drawbacks to choosing the cheapest car insurance you can find, and many of them can easily be masked by the appeal of a cheap price tag.

Insufficient Coverage

One major potential downside to going for the cheapest option is that you may be choosing only the minimum coverages, meaning you’ll face higher risk in the event of an accident.

For example, if you choose only the required liability insurance required by your state (and no collision or other optional coverage), you’ll only be able to pay for damages to another driver in an accident you cause, meaning you’ll have no insurance for your own costs.

High Out-of-Pocket Costs

Also, choosing high deductibles on your auto insurance policy in order to get lower premiums will often leave you with higher out-of-pocket costs at the time of an accident.

While it’s easy to set up a high deductible in order to get a lower premium because you don’t expect to get in an accident, the reality is it could easily happen. So it’s smart to really assess your budget and set a deductible that you can afford to pay in the event of an accident.

Poor Customer Service and Claims Support

When you get the cheapest policy on the market, you may find that the customer service is not there when you need it. Take a look at reviews from customers to try and find out how the company handles claims, customer questions, etc.

“Cheap Insurance” Scams

Customers seeking “cheap car insurance” are targets for those running car insurance scams. These scams are frequently disguised as a deal that seems too good to be true. One day, you try to file a claim and find out your insurance never existed.

In 2011, a fraudulent company in Michigan scammed a large number of auto insurance buyers by offering cheap car insurance that turned out to be fake. Michigan and several other states have begun cracking down on this issue; however, it is ultimatelyyour job to make sure the company you purchase auto insurance from is a legitimate and trustworthy company.

You should research any company thoroughly before handing over any money or personal information. A good place to start in vetting these car insurance companies is shopping online.

Warning signs that the insurance company may be fake include the following:

  • The price is significantly lower than the range of prices you’ve seen from other companies.
  • There are typos in the paperwork or advertising from the company.
  • The company requests full payment via cash or money order.
  • An “agent” offers to backdate the new policy.
  • You do not get an insurance ID card.

Whenever you’re on a website and shopping around for car insurance, make sure their website is secure. especially if you plan to give any personal information (e.g. for a quote).

If the site’s URL starts with “https” (vs. “http”), it’s secure, meaning you can count on the site to have security measures in place, and you can feel more confident inputting personal information.

Finding the Best Low-Cost Car Insurance

When it comes down to it, auto insurance is all about finding the best low-cost option that is not necessarily the cheapest or most minimal. After all, you want to feel adequately protected should something happen.

Regardless of the price you end up paying, you should look up valid complaints about the insurance company filed with your state’s Department of Insurance to make sure you’re purchasing a plan with good coverage as well as customer service.

Seat Belt

Seat Belt Products

Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death and injury in the United States, 40,000 deaths every year. Even more tragically, many of those deaths could have been prevented if the people in the car had just been wearing a seat belt. The humble seat belt, a simple fabric strap and some connecting hardware, is truly one of the life savers of the modern age. When your car stops suddenly or a rapid force is applied to the belt hardware, a special device locks the belt in place, restraining you safely in your seat. This restraining action keeps you from going face-first into the dash or the seat ahead of you, saving you bumps, bruises and contusions, and quite possibly saving your life. At just 30 miles per hour, hitting the inside of your car is literally like falling three stories, not something you want to do every day! Keeping yourself and your family safe by always wearing your seat belts is a great start, but remember, your seat belts can deteriorate with time and wear. Straps get frayed, buckling hardware can become corroded or jammed, and sometimes the belt just gets old. Play it safe, when your belts start showing any sign of wear or poor functioning, it’s time for a replacement. Fortunately, we stock high quality OEM and aftermarket belts that will keep you riding in safety and style. Shipping is always free on orders over $50, and we are here 24/7 to meet your every seat belt need. Don’t delay, order today.

Buying Guides

    • Safety First: How to Choose the Best Seat Belt

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that almost 13,000 people are saved every year by seat belts. Also called safety belts, seat belts are designed to protect passengers in case of collisions or sudden stops. They also reduce the risk of death for front-seat passengers by almost 50 percent in vehicular accidents.

If your car’s seat belts are already worn, you must replace them ASAP. Seat belts that won’t buckle or retract properly will only cause more damage. Though replacing seat belts is easy, choosing the best isn’t. If you want new seat belts, there are some important things to consider, so you won’t regret your purchase and sacrifice your safety.

      Types of seat belt

Nowadays, cars can be equipped with different types of seat belts. Though they are all designed to keep you safe, you should know which type of seat belt is best for you.

      • Two-point: Basically, two-point seat belts have two attachment points. But because of the possibility of paralysis, two-point belts have been revised over the years.
      • Three-point: A three-point belt is similar to the two-point belt, but it’s unitized. In case of a collision, the three-point seat belt distributes the energy of the moving body in three points: chest, pelvis, and shoulders.
      • Belt-in-Seat: Also called BIS, belt-in-seats are attached to the car seat rather than the vehicle structure.
      • 4-,5-, and 6-point belts: Typically found in child seats and race cars, these kinds of seat belts can cause injuries when installed in vehicles that aren’t meant to have them. They can also cause paralysis if the car equipped with these kinds of belts doesn’t have enough strength to prevent roof collapse during vehicle rollovers.

      Proper seat belt fit

The best seat belt should fit you perfectly. According to the NHTSA, seat belts should fit across your shoulders and the middle of your chest. If you want to have a lap belt, it should go below your stomach and across your hips. For better and more adjustable seat belts, car dealers provide seat belt adjusters. If you’re wondering, these guidelines also apply to children.

      The best brand

Seat belts, just like other car parts, are widely manufactured because they eventually get damaged. Typically, seat belts range from $20 to $250. Price influences quality, so it’s best to buy seat belts from trustworthy brands that don’t sacrifice cost for quality.

      Repair Guides

        • DIY: Replacing Worn Seat Belts

Seat belts are very important when it comes to car safety. They are safety harnesses that are designed to secure passengers in case of collisions or sudden stops. If your car’s seat belts are already worn, they have to be replaced immediately. This DIY guide will teach you how you can replace your car’s seat belts-from retractor to buckle- in your own garage.

          Difficulty level: Easy

          Tools You’ll Need:

Step 1: Find the bolts that secure your worn seat belt. These bolts are covered by a plastic top that you can pry with your hands or with a screwdriver. Depending on your car’s model and make, the bolts may be at the floor, side panel, or side of the seat. Also, some seat belts are secured by one bolt, while others are secure by two or three bolts.

Step 2: Once you located the bolts, unbolt them with a wrench. If your car has a three-point seat belt, you have to unbolt the buckle, shoulder strap, and lap belt. If your car has a lap belt, then you have to unbolt the buckle and belt.

Step 3: Align the new retractor to the holes that you made when you unbolted the old retractor. Then, bolt it into place using your wrench. If you’re attaching a three-point seat belt, connect the shoulder and lap belt before bolting them in place.

Step 4: Get the new buckle, and bolt it properly with your wrench. Once the buckle is in place, insert the seat belt’s tongue into the buckle.

Step 5: To ensure that the seat belt is properly installed, pull the seat belt several times. If the belt stays locked, you installed the seat belt correctly. If it doesn’t stay locked, make sure that all bolts are secured and tightened. Repeat all the steps to replace all your worn seat belts.

      Our Providers

I strongly recommend the Florida Insurance Group. I’ve been a satisfied client of theirs for the past 14 years. Recently my policy significantly increased and they took the time to re-shop it and found another good company (they represent a lot of different ones) and saved me over $900! Maggie was great!

This is the accommodation for Ellizabeth Sito. I had a terrible time at first dealing with my Fort Lauderdale Homeowners Company. I had a new roof put on my house that I Paid for and got a Wind Mitigation in Sept. 2014 and sent it to them. On April 30th, 2015,I received my bill for the year and I called them as my bill went “Sky High”. It was then that she told the Wind Mitigation was incorrect and I would have to get a new one done with pictures etc. It was then that I got in contact with Elizabeth with Nationwide Insurance in Orlando and she never hesitated to help me. She dealt with the Insurance Company in Fort Lauderdale and the roofer that did the Wind Mitigation. It took about a month from start to finish and she kept me informed as to what transpired and was patient with me, She did a “Super Job” in getting this all resolved, even on the payment to get it in on time. Great Job Elizabeth! You are the “Best”.

After I noticed my homeowners insurance starting to rise, I decided to make a change. During my conversation with Ziggy; he was very pleasant and knowledgeable concerning my needs. The process was handled quickly. Thank you for your help and the great customer service!

After our previous auto insurance rates continued to creep up, we decided to ask Ron at Florida Insurance Group for help. They saved us nearly $1100 a Year, and got us our new policy quickly and with wonderful customer service, too!

2 Killed in Brooklyn Crash, Car Splits in Half

Two people were killed when two vehicles crashed at a busy intersection near a Brooklyn mall Monday evening, causing an impact so powerful one of the cars split in half when it hit a nearby utility pole, police say.

The victims who died were in a Nissan Maxima heading south on Flatbush Avenue in Marine Park shortly after 6:30 p.m. when they hit a BMW turning onto Avenue U from Flatbush Avenue’s northbound lanes, police say.

The Maxima’s passenger, 18-year-old Christina Wipper, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver, 20-year-old Philbert Martin Williams, was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and the passenger in the BMW were taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries, police say.

It’s not yet clear who had the right of way or what color the traffic light was, but several cars made the left turn onto Avenue U before the BMW, surveillance video shows.

The video, which captured the crash, shows the Maxima going much faster than other cars on Flatbush before it slammed into the BMW.

Richard Corredor, whose surveillance cameras caught the crash, said: It’s really bad. I mean, if you just look at the car, the car is in pieces wrapped around the pole. This is as bad as you can get.

Other neighbors say the busy intersection outside Kings Plaza is dangerous and accident-prone.

Everybody goes all kinds of speeds here, said Victor DeBiasi. It’s crazy. They should do something to slow it down.

Two Dead In Horrific Brooklyn Car Crash

A driver and his passenger were killed after their car crashed into another vehicle on Flatbush Avenue at Avenue U in Marine Park, Brooklyn last night around 6:40 p.m. Multiple sources say the driver was going 100 mph or faster.

According to the official police statement, the driver of a Nissan Maxima was traveling south on Flatbush Avenue when he struck a BMW, which was turning onto Avenue U from northbound Flatbush Avenue. A security camera captured the crash, and the man who installed the camera said he thought Williams was speeding. A source tells The Daily News he was going 100 mph.

One witness told NBC New York. “Forget it, it was crazy, he was going over 100 miles an hour. You could just tell by the sound of the breaking and everything in the crash, it was definitely over a hundred.”

A police source said the Nissan was “was completely shredded. It was wrapped around the pole,” while another neighborhood worker told the News the firefighters seemed stunned as they cut out someone from the car: “They looked like they were in shock, like they had seen a ghost.
