    Fashion Jobs

    Fashion Designer Job Overview

Fashion designers create original clothing, accessories and footwear. They sketch designs, select fabrics and patterns for apparel, and give instructions on how to make the products they designed. Fashion designers most often work in wholesale or manufacturing establishments, apparel companies, retailers, theater and dance companies, and design firms. Jobs in fashion design are usually found in large cities, such as New York City or Los Angeles.

Fashion designers follow trends by reading trade publications and attending fashion shows. Leading fashion designers work with market researchers and merchandisers to create items that will boost profit margins and market share for their employers.

    Fashion Designer Education

Most employers require a college degree to work in fashion design, and in these tight times, good jobs in fashion design are likely to go to graduates of top fashion-design schools. Students of fashion design learn about textiles, pattern making, color selection, tailoring, computer-aided design and the industrial process of clothing manufacturing.

    Fashion Job Market

A career in fashion is one that many dream of, yet few realize. There were 21,500 fashion designers in the US 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Fashion employment is not expected to grow in the decade ending in 2020; automation of design tasks and offshoring of design work will hold down expansion.

    Fashion Designer Salaries

Fashion designers earned median wages of $64,690 in 2011, according to the BLS. The middle half earned between $44,500 and $90,060; the top 10 percent grossed $127,820. The few designers who become household names stand to make millions annually.

The 10 Highest-Paying Hourly Jobs In Fashion Retail

The fashion retail industry employs more than 1.2 million people in the U.S. but most of the jobs are hourly and notoriously low-paid.

We reached out to Glassdoor to help us find the companies that paid the best hourly wages in the industry over the last year.

The data focuses on employees who work on the floor of stores that sell clothing and accessories – such as cashiers and salespeople – and excludes salary information for managers and supervisors.

Bloomingdale’s topped the list, with an average hourly salary of $12.36. Of the 58 companies for which Glassdoor compiled salary data, Pacific Sunwear was at the bottom, at $7.62 an hour. And Abercrombie Fitch was second-to-last, with an average hourly wage of $7.69.

    Sales Jobs

    Sales Employment Information

    Sales Industry Overview

Key to the top line of most enterprises, sales is a core business function. The head of any business — whether it’s the owner of a one-person shop or the CEO of a major corporation — is often the salesperson-in-chief. In addition to the sales jobs in their own sales departments, many companies use related services or products — ranging from sales automation software to swag for trade shows — that create many more jobs in sales.

    Sales Job Market

More than 340,000 people held jobs as sales managers in 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS); another 40,100 sales manager jobs are projected to be added by 2020. Sales engineer jobs numbered 66,400 in 2010, and the profession is expected to grow by 9,500 jobs over the decade. Millions more sales jobs are in frontline roles.

Sales employment varies widely in its complexity, but consumer-facing salespeople generally put forth a simpler pitch than their counterparts in business-to-business or commercial sales. Ever more sales careers are dependent on in-depth knowledge of sales-tracking systems; in many industries, sales reps who don’t leverage technology to boost efficiency and close more deals are an endangered species. And while technology may replace many sales assistant jobs, professionals who can make a human connection and consistently deliver new and returning buyers should find strong sales job opportunities.

Common sales job titles include sales assistant, sales associate, sales representative, inside sales representative, outside sales representative, sales agent, sales account executive, sales engineer, sales manager, sales director and vice president of sales.

    Sales Salaries

Salaries in sales vary widely, depending on the particular job in sales, the product or service being sold, the sales commission structure and the sales rep’s talent for closing the deal. Sales representatives (excluding those who sell wholesale, manufacturing, scientific and technical products) earned median salaries of $50,630 in May 2011, according to the BLS. Median annual wages for sales managers were $101,640. Sales engineers, who typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in science or technology, earned median wages of $89,330.

5 Product Display Ideas that Rock Sales #allretailjobs

5 Product Display Ideas that Rock Sales

Product display is one of the keys to a successful selling. The way products are presented inside your store greatly affects the decision of your customers to buy, or simply leave the area without making any purchase.

These tips I am going to introduce you today are hoped to give your sales a kick when you are going to apply them. These tips may be not new for veterans in retailing, but these are very helpful for the new generation of retailers and other individual who are just entering the portal of the Retail Industry.

Here are the five product display ideas that rock sales.

    1. Use the Suggestive Technique.

Show the items in use. Make a hamper or group items as one set, like displaying together the chopping board, knives and other cookware. This is the micro version of the popular cross merchandising, which is sometimes called add-on sales or incremental purchase.

    2. Use Rack or Bin to Suggest Quality and Price.

Normally, customers expect that items in the offer bin have lower prices than those in shelves and showcases. Please take note that it doesn t mean that when you use the dump bin, you would simply dump, literally, the items into it; consider arranging the products nicely. Fold the garment properly and maintain the tidiness of the your product display.

Try to put the items which are not so attractive in nature in a classy rack to enhance its visual impact and added value.

    3. Maximize the Potential of the Feature Areas

The feature areas in your stores are where the best place to put you most profitable products. Here are the different feature areas in your store:

    • Endcap. It is the hub at the end of an aisle or gondola especially in grocery stores.
    • Promotional Area. It is the location where promotions are done and promotional items are placed. Some bigger promotions are often located at the atrium of bigger stores.
    • Free Standing Fixtures. It is movable type of fixture which allow you place in a highly traffic area in your store. These are sometimes placed near the entrance of the store to give the featured product a higher visibility and buying potential.
    • Store Window. It is where a beautiful window display seen.
    • Point of Sale (POS) Display. It is found just before the checkout counter. This is sometime referred as Point of Purchase (POP); some custom POS displays are also found around the store.

The above mentioned areas in your store are also called hot spots. The third level, which is straight to eye level, of the shelves and cashier’s point are the good areas to place the items that are usually forgotten, add-ons, less necessary and unbranded products – obviously you don’t need to put rice and sugar in these areas.

    4. Vary the Position, Arrangement and Style.

Once a month if can’t manage to do it twice a month, you need to give your product display a new look. Variation also helps avoid boredom to your regular customers. Make use of merchandise display techniques depending upon which one works best for the type of your products.

Use the shelving, hanging, pegging, folding, stacking and dumping merchandise display techniques.

    5. Add Information on Product Display

Place an informative signage beside or near your items especially when your items have unique specification, unique quality or patented because more shoppers nowadays are wise buyers, and are after of the product quality. This will also help to lessen the repetitive tasks of sales staffs on giving the same answer to the same question of different customers.

If you more product display ideas to add on these five on the list, feel free to share them as comment.

    Thank you for reading. Godspeed!
