Social Network Analysis

Social Network Visualizer (SocNetV) is a cross-platform, user-friendly free software application for social network analysis and visualization. With SocNetV you can:

  • Draw social networks with a few clicks on a virtual canvas, load field data from a file in a supported format (GraphML . GraphViz . Adjacency. EdgeList, GML, Pajek. UCINET. etc) or crawl the internet to create a social network of connected webpages.
  • Edit actors and ties through point-and-click, analyse graph and social network properties, produce beautiful HTML reports and embed visualization layouts to the network.
  • Standard graph and network cohesion metrics, such as density . diameter . geodesics and distances . connectedness . eccentricity . clustering coefficient . reciprocity, etc.
  • Matrix routines: Adjacency plot, Laplacian matrix, Degree matrix, Cocitation, etc

A Design Class diagram is a way of modelling the domain to a level of detail much more than that of a domain model. Inside a design class diagram, the classes become objects – Object Classes:

Objects are created according to an Object Class Definition. An Object Class definition is both a type and a template for creating objects. It includes declarations of all the attributes and operations that should be associated with an object of that class.

Ian Sommerville- Software Engineering Edition 8, 2007- Page 316, Ch 14.1

In UML an object class is represented as a named rectangle with 2 sections – the object attributes and the object operations. An example of this is shown below using an object class that models a Circle / Rectangle and a Student :

If one was to thing of this in an Object Oriented way, then the top section would be the declaration of variables, and the bottom section the functions/methods.

Design Class Diagram Example

Now, this is going to get bog, fast – just a warning, hehe. Now for this part, you will need to read this:

An exam contains 3 different types of questions:

  1. Plain text questions
  2. Multiple choice questions
  3. Composite questions

Using this, draw a Domain Model and then a Design Class Diagram for that Domain.

First things first is that we need to identify the Classes. Well, quite obviously we have 3 Classes straight of the top:

  1. Plain text questions
  2. Multiple Choice questions
  3. Composite questions

BUT, look more closely… what do you see? Well, if you saw it or not, they all inherit something that s right, they all inherit “Question”, think about it, each one will contain something of the same variables and operations etc etc, and we really don t want to write out the same variable/operation declaration 3 times?!

But then. what about Multiple Choice questions? They contain multiple answers, so surely we need a type for that – so we could use “Multiple Choice Question Options”

That means we now have 5 classes.

So for quick guidance, here is what the Domain Model will look like:

Social Security cost-of-living allowance increases for 2017 is just 0.3 percent

Your Social Security check will increase by a measly 0.3 percent next year.

That’s according to the Social Security Administration, which announced its 2017 cost-of-living adjustment on Tuesday. The “COLAs” are based on increases in the Consumer Price Index.

The agency also will be taking more. It said it will increase the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax to $127,200 from $118,500, starting in January.

Social Security checks

The announcement comes months after the agency’s board had predicted that the adjustments payable next January would range from zero to 0.7 percent. The Medicare Trustees report in June had predicted a COLA increase of 0.2 percent for Social Security.

The average monthly Social Security benefit in January will be $1,360, $5 more than now, according to the government.

News of the tiny increase doesn’t come as a surprise for financial planners, who already held out pessimistic expectations.

Stretching a dollar

Financial advisors have said that they aren’t counting on Social Security COLAs as a retirement income boost, especially since 2016 was a year with no increase for retirees.

As a result, advisors are looking for other ways to help older clients generate income, including increasing allocations to stocks.

“If inflation happens, whether Social Security recognizes it or not, you’ll have to increase retirement income,” said Benjamin Brandt, a fee-only financial planner at Capital City Wealth Management in Bismarck, North Dakota.

“It’s not coming from your pension or from Social Security,” he said. “It’s coming from your investment portfolio.”

The effect of having a tiny-to-flat increase in Social Security is much more jarring for people who largely depend on the government program.

“The government is looking at CPI, and if they see no inflation, then there’s no increase,” said Gregory L. Olsen, a partner at Lenox Advisors in New York.

“Seniors who rely on it are in a position where if their rent goes up $50 a month, but Social Security increases by only $5 a month, what will you do without now?” he asked.

There aren’t very many ways for retirees to squeeze out an extra dollar from otherwise “safe” pots of cash. Rates on three-year certificates of deposit are still below 2 percent. and savings accounts are crediting interest in the neighborhood of 1 percent.

Medicare woes

Next year, a handful of retirees will contend with increased costs for Medicare Part B, the insurance program that applies to doctor’s services and outpatient care.

A “hold harmless” provision buffers most retirees from increased Medicare Part B expenses in a year when the increase in the premium is higher than the Social Security COLA. These people will not pay higher Part B costs.

You can expect to pay higher Part B premiums in the following situations:

  • You’re eligible to enroll in Medicare for the first time in 2017.
  • You’re enrolled in Medicare, but you aren’t collecting Social Security.
  • You’re already subject to Medicare premium surcharges because you didn’t enroll on time and now have to pay a penalty.

Keep a lid on your costs by enrolling for Medicare when you’re eligible. You can sign up during the initial enrollment period, which starts three months before your 65 th birthday and ends three months after.

If you miss that first enrollment window, you will be subject to a 10 percent late fee for each 12-month period you went without coverage. You will pay this surcharge for the remainder of your life.

Where do the candidates stand?

As retirees and their financial advisors grapple with the prospect of another year with flat Social Security income, the presidential candidates have had little to say about the program at the last two debates.

But Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton spelled out their positions in an AARP Bulletin on June 27.

There, Clinton’s campaign said she was against cutting COLAs, would push back against privatization of the program, and fight efforts to increase the retirement age. She has also supported taxing high earners’ income beyond the current cap of $118,500.

In that same AARP Bulletin. Trump’s campaign said he would work with Congress to ensure “we have a pro-growth agenda in place,” but did not provide details on specific changes to Social Security.

“If we are able to sustain growth rates in GDP that we had as a result of the Kennedy and Reagan tax reforms, we will be able to secure Social Security for the future,” his campaign said.

    Seven Hills is a working farm, it also gives our guests the opportunity to see how our animals are raised. We have over 1500 goats, pet chickens, turkeys, pigs and sheep. Our rivers and dams hold yabbies and fish. At night the farm turns into a nocturnal wildlife park.

    A horse shoe homestead surrounds a large swimming pool courtyard, including a spa and BBQ area. The homestead boasts breathtaking three hundred and sixty degree panoramic views. Every sunset is unique as the views stretch to the horizon.

While understandably complex to a layperson, the actual process of preparing for and filing a bankruptcy can be broken down fairly easily.     In a nutshell, most individuals and married couples have two types of bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy Code: Chapter 7 Bankruptcy or Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. While you can receive a bankruptcy discharge and thus eliminate your debts by filing either chapter, Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 function very differently.

    Types of Bankruptcy: Chapter 7

    Chapter 7 is intended for those looking for a fresh start. It’s often referred to as “liquidation” bankruptcy — meaning that you must be prepared to give up any assets that you can’t protect by your jurisdiction’s bankruptcy exemptions to get a clean slate of your debts. Below is a checklist of needed information for Chapter 7. For more detailed information on any of the checklist items, please click the highlighted links.

    • Must file an accurately completed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Petition with your jurisdiction’s Bankruptcy Court
    • Must pay Court’s Chapter 7 Filing Fee : $299
    • Must complete Credit Counseling with an approved agency (For a list of all approved agencies in your state, see and select Credit Counseling and Debtor Education. )
    • Case is administered by an assigned Bankruptcy Trustee. Must attend a Trustee supervised Meeting of the Creditors about a month after your case is filed.
    • Typically takes 4-6 months from time of filing to complete and receive a discharge
    • Student Loans, parking tickets and debts ordered to be paid via a divorce decree are NON-dischargeable (can’t be eliminated in a Chapter 7)
    • Can only successfully file Chapter 7 ONCE EVERY 8 YEARS
    • Bankruptcy Attorney Fees: Usually $500 – $2500 (or higher if your case is highly complex) depending on where you live.
    • Must meet income requirements and pass the Bankruptcy Court’s Means Test to qualify for Chapter 7. Those who don’t qualify based on income must file Chapter 13.

    Types of Bankruptcy: Chapter 13

    Chapter 13 is commonly referred to as the “reorganization” bankruptcy. It’s filed for many reasons – most commonly to save a home from foreclosure, stop IRS collection or to consolidate debts into a single monthly affordable payment.     • Must file an accurately completed Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Petition and Chapter 13 Plan with your jurisdiction’s Bankruptcy Court
    • Must pay Court’s Chapter 13 Filing Fee : $274
    • Must complete Credit Counseling with an approved agency (For a list of all approved agencies in your state, see and select Credit Counseling and Debtor Education. )
    • Case is administered by an assigned Bankruptcy Trustee. Must attend a Trustee supervised Meeting of the Creditors about a month after your case is filed.
    • Chapter 13 repayment plans typically must last 5 years(60 months) from time of filing to receive a discharge
    • Student Loans, parking tickets and other non-dischargeable debts can be included in the repayment plan
    • No limit of amount of times you can file Chapter 13, though most Courts discourage repetitive filings within a short period of time
    • Bankruptcy Attorney fees: Usually $1500 – $3500 (or higher if your case is highly complex) depending on where you live. The majority of the attorney fees are typically included in the monthly consolidated Chapter 13 payment.
    • Must meet monthly income requirements to qualify for Chapter 13. Sources of income can include: employment, social security, pensions, and child support among others.

    Causes of Bankruptcies

    There are many different life situations that result in people filing personal bankruptcies. Some of them are:
